Beaverhead county extends a joyous welcome to 1940 with numerous watch parties. In Dillon the volunteer fire department hosts a large annual New Year dance at city hall. the Dillon Elks lodge stages its first New Year Eve ball with Elks and guests from across the county. Favors were handed out, refreshments served, and Paul H. Temple chaired the committee. Dances also take place in outside communities and private gatherings. 1940 license plates go on sale at county offices
Distribution opened yesterday at the court house and the offices of Treasurer Bertie Mathews and Assessor Judson P Best. About 2,800 motorists are expected to apply for new licenses this year based on 1939 figures. Applicants present their 1939 registration card for vehicle assessment, obtain an assessment slip, and then receive the license from the treasurer. The new design features a light blue background with white figures. Last year the county issued 1,904 passenger plates 728 truck plates 137 trailer plates and 3,810 driver permits.

Dillon Ski Club Opens New Tow On Sunday

Dillon Ski Club Opens New Slide at Elkhorn Springs
The Dillon Ski club unveiled a new slide and tow at Elkhorn Springs attracting many outdoors enthusiasts for the official opening. Club president Kenneth Wheat announced the tow’s recent installation was a complete success and the slide was in good condition. Members used a nearby lodge for overnight stays, with a New Year’s lunch served by E. E. Hazel, and a shelter at the slide’s base was built for spectator comfort.
