Beaverhead Range Area Designated as Vigilante Experimental Range
A Beaverhead National Forest area of about 7500 acres along the Beaverhead range was designated the Vigilante Experimental Range by Forester Silcox. The zone includes a strip between Cottonwood and Warm Springs creeks and extends toward the Ruby range to Gravelly Peak, grazed by one sheep band and about 200 cattle.

Centennial resident John W Stroufe dies after long illness
John W. Stroufe, longtime Centennial valley resident, died Friday night at his Monida home after a long illness. He was 87, lived in the southern part of the county for 40 years, and was father of the late Osie Smith of Monida. Survived by a brother in California and a grandson, Farm J. Smith of New York City. Funeral services were held yesterday at Brundage Funeral Home in Dillon, with Rev. Willis J. Loar officiating. interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery.

Construction Boom Sweeps Dillon Area This Year
Dillon and vicinity will see active construction over the next several months. The federal building rises rapidly and should meet the schedule. An overpass over Oregon Short Line tracks south of Dillon nears completion, removing the last railroad crossing on Highway 91 in Beaverhead County. Reconstruction of the Normal college dormitories starts next week with about $175,000 planned and a year to finish.

Beaverhead Welcomes New Year With Local Celebrations
Beaverhead county residents ushered in 1936 with numerous watch parties and dances. Dillon hosted a New Year’s Eve dance at city hall by the volunteer fire department. Bannack joined with a dance under the slogan Start your New Year where your state started. A watch party gathered at First Baptist church with area pastors and church members. Families rang out the old and rang in the new as toasts were raised at the state liquor store.

Car Permits Go On Sale January 2 in Dillon
Dillon drivers must buy individual permits from City Treasurer Frank C. McFadden at the water office daily starting tomorrow. The 1936 permits, 50 cents each, expire yesterday and are required for anyone driving a car on city streets. Ranchers and other infrequent visitors are exempt only in limited cases.
