The February contingent from Beaverhead left for Fort Douglas with Charles W. Goodwin entering the Marines and Sidney J. Shafer joining the Navy. The rest were inducted into the Army including Rudolph Platt John F Kirbye George A Monroe Eldon K Stephens and others as listed in the roster.

Dillon Pilot Clyde Casterline Reported Missing In Action

Information from Lt. Col. G. O. Wymond Jr. to C. M. Casterline of Dillon confirms Lt. Clyde Casterline of the Flying Cocks was missing in action over Northern Italy since January 21 1945 after a dive bombing mission. his aircraft exploded on a shallow belly landing following a low dive.

Nineteen Forty Five Montana Futurity Nominations

Thirty seven nominations were entered for the 1945 Montana Futurity to be held October 21 and 22 during the Hereford show at Dillon. Secretary-manager F A Ralston noted last year’s 26 nominations and said the deadline was February 15.

Beavers Sweep Twin Bridges In 47-25 Victory

Beaverhead county Beavers posted their 19th win in 20 starts by defeating Twin Bridges 47-25 on the road. Dillon led 25-8 at halftime as reserves saw most of the final two quarters, with Chuck Davis scoring 20 points and Gosman adding eight.

Final Rites For Mrs. W. H. Jones Are Held

Funeral services for Mrs. William H. Jones, a Dillon matron who died in Seattle on February 13, were conducted Saturday at the First Lutheran church by Rev. Norman Benson. Memorial services at Presbyterian church honored four Beaverhead county fallen

Memorial services at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon will honor four Beaverhead county men who died serving the United States. Fred Rife, Navy radio technician. Lt. Walter Shaffner, Marine. Lt. Joseph Herman, Army. and Pvt. Kenneth Welborn are remembered in services led by Rev. Floyd Logee with public attendance invited.

Dillon drive collects carload of paper and rags

A scrap paper and rag drive at Dillon organized by the students recreation center ended successfully on Saturday. The campaign aimed for a full carload and attained the goal with a surplus, announced by Joe Shaw, committee chairman.

FBI led officer training session opens in court room

The first of a series of law enforcement classes was held in the courthouse with city and county officers attending. It was led by FBI agents Richard C. Held and R. H. Wright, with County Attorney Lew OD Brundage teaching one session. The next class on evidence collection and preservation was postponed to February 27 due to district basketball.

Snow Damps traffic on Highway 91 near Monida Pass

Highway 91 from the Monida pass south was blocked twice this week by drifting snow. Bus service failed to pass Sunday night and was stalled again last night, delaying travel and causing detours for travelers.

Washington Birthday Observance Closes Stores and Offices

All business houses and offices will be closed tomorrow in observance of Washingtons Birthday. Schools remain in session though Beaverhead County High School will dismiss classes in the afternoon for the district basketball tournament.

Dillon Girl Scout Drive Exceeds Quota in Fund Campaign

Dillon's Girl Scout fund drive closed successfully with volunteers surpassing the local council quota. Finance Chair Mrs. Lambert Eliel announced at a council meeting that the campaign costs were met and the 1945 budget set at 308.22 dollars, with house to house canvassing aiding generous community response. Plans were set at the commissioner’s home for a mother daughter banquet on April 13, with a program committee named to present awards based on achievement records.

Mrs. Syrena Sprinkle 80 a Beaverhead county resident for nearly 60 years died Sunday afternoon at 2 30 o'clock at her Dillon home after a brief illness Funeral services were held this afternoon at Brundage funeral home chapel Rev L Belle Long of the First Baptist church officiated and interment was in Mountain View cemetery Pall bearers were Vilus Banning Victor Carrigan Jack Brown A A Schroder Richard Nelson and Harris Opp Mrs Sprinkle was born in St Louis Dec 23 1864 and came to Beaverhead county in 1886 six years after Dillon was founded She married Er Sprinkle April 11 1889 at a ranch near Dillon The couple operated ranches and Mr Sprinkle worked on Poindexter Orr ranch near Dillon since 1912 Mrs Sprinkle's obituary continues on page 2.

Dillon Home Damaged by Fire Today

Fire of unknown origin damaged the residence of Roscoe Comfort at 208 South Dakota street shortly after 3 30 this afternoon. Flames started near an outside basement entrance and spread through the kitchen to the attic. Volunteer firefighters battled the blaze for over thirty minutes before controlling it.

Beaverhead Red Cross Quota Fixed at $5,700

Dillon prep basketball notes highlight Beaverhead High Beavers posting a 19–1 regular season record with 876 points for and 556 against, averaging 44 points per game. The district 16 tournament opens this week, while Dillon shows relatively inexperienced depth with only two two year players and two previously second-string players.

Red Cross quota set at Beaverhead $5700 for March drive

Beaverhead county raises its Red Cross campaign goal to 5700 dollars for March up by 100 from last year. Miss Anna Salin North Western field rep met with Rev. Lewis D. Smith Beaverhead chapter chairman and drive chairman Joe White to discuss increased needs including aid for returning veterans. Torrid Cage Tourney Opens Here Tomorrow

The District 16 Class B basketball tournament begins tomorrow at 2 PM in the Montana State Normal College gym with Beaverhead County High hosts and defending champion status. Eight teams Sheridan Twin Bridges Whitehall Virginia City Ennis Harrison Anaconda Central and Dillon compete for the title over three days, with opening games Harrison vs Whitehall and Sheridan vs Virginia City.

Giles Dies at 71 Retired Beaverhead Rancher

James Milton Giles 71, a longtime Beaverhead County resident and retired rancher, died suddenly at 11 this morning at his North Washington home after years of poor health and several strokes. Born January 28, 1874 in McFall Missouri, he married Katie Bulla in 1904 and moved to Montana in 1910. The family later settled in Dillon seven years ago. he was a member of the church.

AAA Planning Meet in Beaverhead County

Beaverhead county ranchers and farmers will gather in Dillon on Tuesday February 27 for an all day session in the courthouse. Herbert Wheat secretary of the Beaverhead AAA office calls the meeting to discuss 1945 Triple A production with speakers Burton Brewster G H Bingham and Clarkson Spain outlining the program and national food requirements and labor equipment and supply.

Beaverhead County registration totals and recent changes

About 2,975 electors are registered to vote in Beaverhead County. Clerk Albert S. Baker said registration books closed Friday for the Dillon city election and the Lima town election. Few new registrations were recorded, mainly for residents meeting age and residency requirements after the general election.

Card Parties Held by Two Dillon Lodges

Two Dillon lodges hosted well attended card parties last weekend at the Masonic hall. Mizpah chapter of the Order of Eastern Star sponsored pinochle and bridge games with multiple prize winners named, including Iva Orr and Ray Tennant for bridge and Lena Nelson with Sylvester Meade for pinochle. Door prizes went to Iva Orr and George Lennox. Nancy Wheat performed.

Funeral for Mrs Susan Barnett Held Here

The funeral for Mrs Susan Barnett pioneer matron of Beaverhead and Madison counties occurred Friday afternoon at Brundage chapel. Mizpah chapter Order of Eastern Star, once led by Barnett, oversaw the service. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery. Pallbearers named Bert Megquier Charles Price Finlay Watson Fred Woodside All Featherly and Fred Chapman.
