Dillon hosts successful horse sale with next event planned

A Dillon horse sale drew strong receipts despite slower bidding. About 750 horses sold for roughly $100,000, averaging $125, with further sales expected March 12 and 18. Top prices included Sanders & LaDue at $650 for gray geldings and George Ditty at $250 for one horse. Private sales and shipments to Billings Great Falls and Ogden accompanied the event.

Fourth Class Postmaster Examination On March 28

The U S Civil Service Commission announces a March 28 examination for fourth class postmasters to be held in Monida Montana. It may certify to a vacancy in Lakeview Montana and other offices, with reinstatement possible. Applicants must be 21, reside in the postal territory, and be U S citizens.

Butte City high school fast basketball team will play Dillon next Saturday evening in the high school gym. Butte defeated Dillon at Helena district tourney last week, but Dillon tied for third honors. A record crowd is expected for the big season game with a Baxter-Tonrey orchestra dance to follow.

Stanley Sisterson, a benchland farer and new citizen, plans to sell his 320 acre namesteat and ranch equipment to answer the draft. He expresses readiness to serve for both England and the United States, saying he will fight for Uncle Sam and can farm his land while others fight.

Dillon High School Basketball Team Returns From District Tourney

The Dillon team traveled from Helena after district play with Helena standing first followed by Missoula and Great Falls. Dillon finished tied for third with Butte while Edinger was sick and missed games. Frank Hatfield arrived late missing the opener as Dillon lost to each foe and the trip included Coach Lemmon Capt. Williams and eight players plus a rooting squad.

Pantages Show Comes to Dillon Tonight

Red Cross Worker Rewards Rules Adopted by Northern Division

The Northern Division approves rules for honoring Red Cross workers. Women completing 82 hours may wear the emblem, 72 hours adds a cap cross, and 18 more hours earns a service stripe. Knitters receive hours credits: 16 for a sweater, 14 for socks, 7 for wristlets, 14 for a helmet, and 8 for a scarf.

Mrs Elliott And Child Ren Return From Tacoma

A. A. Elliott traveled to Butte Sunday to meet Mrs Elliott and children who had just returned from Tacoma where they had lived three months near Camp Lewis. Mrs Elliott praises the country and the camp with its soldiers and hosts. They visited Rev and Mrs Ostrander in Dillon and Milred Elliott in Missoula on the trip home.
