Flood danger is over in Beaverhead Valley

Rapid thawing weather ends flood fears in Beaverhead valley as ice jams melt and water levels drop. Snow and ice recede around Dillon and near Dell where Sheep Creek jam had threatened the highway, leaving fur farms and tourist camps unharmed.

Trapper Lost Found After Wise River Search

Monte Clinton of Wise River was reported missing from his cabin in the wild country above Wise River. A posse led by Sheriff Paul H. Temple conducted a search and found Clinton in another cabin several miles away. He said he moved quarters to be nearer his rap lines.

Past exalted rulers honored at Dillon Elks meeting

Past exalted rulers of Dillon Lodge No. 1554 B P O E were honored at the regular meeting in the O O F hall with Terry Browning as chair. E L Ponttexter, John T Irr, E W Johnson and Lee Joerning served as leading knight loyal knight lecturing knight and esquire. Two candidates George Dugay and Dennis Rareson were initiated and two more officers to be nominated at the March meetings.

Debate Work in Progress Two Schools

Montana State Normal college and Beaverhead county high school begin active debate work. Normal women faced State university women. Normal team members are Mary Jane Lucas and Violet Harvick. The regular team will battle School of Mines in Butte on the wage and hour question.

Firemen's Masquerade Draws Large Dillon Crowd

Dillon volunteers held their annual masquerade ball at City Hall auditorium Saturday with extensive costumes and a large audience. Prizes totaling 30 dollars went to pairs including Louis Schmittroth and Mrs. O T Vandegrift, Jean Kelley and Sam Langdorf, P Downing and Mrs. Esther Schmittroth, Mary Gelhaus and Mrs. Howard Lloyd. The grand march at 11 concluded the event with Hayes Baxter orchestra providing music.

Girl Scout Council of City Formed

The local Girl Scout council organized for the year at Mrs. H. M. Warner’s home and welcomed new members. Committees were named for Finance Camp and transportation Training and personnel Badges and awards Publicity. Dorothy Ann Davis, Golden Eaglet Scout, was chosen to compete for Montana at the International Encampment in Briarcliff New York.

Former Dillon Resident W. E. Mitchell Dies in California

W. E. Mitchell formerly of Dillon died Friday night at his Long Beach California home. The Mitchell family lived in Dillon about 12 years before moving to California in 1912. Mrs. Paul Stahl of Dillon is his daughter but could not attend services due to illness.

Two Farmer Loan Groups Are Joined

The Beaverhead Madison National Farm Loan association of Dillon combines with the Twin Bridges National Farm Loan association to form a single group. Frank A Hazelbaker is named secretary treasurer and will handle all business from his Dillon office. The merger aims to raise economy and efficiency without altering current loan status.

Double Holiday Observance Quiet in Dillon City

Dillon marks Washingtons Birthday with stores and offices closed but schools in session. At the high school a patriotic program featured Dr. R E Albright of Normal College speaking on Washington, color guard presentations, flag salute explanations, and songs by the high school band under L A Gregory. Violet M Eastman chaired the program. News spread via U S Army Band broadcast honoring the D A R. Some locals traveled to nearby cities to visit friends and relatives.

Bulldogs Win and Lose on Recent Trip

The Normal Bulldogs split a recent trip. In the first game against E. M. N. S. the lead changed hands several times with Normal trailing at halftime 37-31. Dyche led a late charge as the Bulldogs battled back.

Choral Club Performs At Sunday Presbyterian Music

Selections by the Dillon Choral Club directed by Mrs W G Gilbert were featured at a Presbyterian church musicale Sunday evening, with solos, an obbligato by Mrs J C Jeppson, and performances by the male quartet and other artists. The event drew good attendance and enjoyment. Kathryn MacGregor was elected district Public Health Nurses president and Luella Stickney secretary at a recent Butte meeting.

Normal Squad Closes Season With Saturday Night Game

The Normal college Bulldogs end their season Saturday with a game against a local picked team formed largely from former M S N C stars. The 1937 Normal squad has five conference wins and a last matchup with School of Mines in Butte could decide second or third in the standings as Polytechnic of Billings dominates for the title. James McCulley of Dillon represents Normal in the state college oratory contest in Bozeman Friday as debate and oratory events are run by the Normal college.
