Special Laws Needed To Cut Down Trees At Stevensville
Workmen in Stevensville remove old street trees to prevent damage from spreading roots. Many poplars six feet in diameter were condemned as they threatened to fall. Street commissioner L C Battles noted standard saws were too short, prompting Anaconda Copper Mining Co to lend an eight-foot saw from their Bonner camp to cut the trees. Henry Buck, who came to Montana in the 1860s, planted the poplars about seventy years ago.
