Beaverhead Education Association Delegates Named

Beaverhead local of the Montana Education Association met at the high school Friday night. A four course dinner was served by the home economics class under Miss Ethel Anderson. Delegates to the state delegates assembly were Prof. Rush Jordan Noral college Miss Ottilie Brauer training school and Miss Jay Kirkpatrick high school. Alternates are Victor Bushman Armstead Miss Rachel Smith training school and Miss Jean Ballard high school.

Normal Bulldogs Triumph In Narrow Win At Helena

Montana Normal's Bulldogs won away games against Northern Montana and Carroll at Helena and fell 60-45 to Mines in Butte. A last minute Davison basket secured a 54-36 win over Northern Lights in Helena, while Mines edged Normal 30-29 in a tense finish.

Tragedy near Cascade claims two youths in crash

Glenn Shelton 23 known as Glenn Hocking of Butte and Argie Ferron 23 of Cut Bank died when Shelton’s car struck the rear of a parked Inter mountain bus near Cascade early Sunday. Shelton, Beaverhead county high school alumnus class of 1936, was active in athletics and forensics and served as business manager of the Beaver weekly. The accident report cites Morris Hoyle of Butte, bus driver, as providing statements to Deputy Sheriff Jewett Grubb.

Auction Sale at Koontz Ranch Near Dillon

An auction sale will be held Wednesday afternoon March 6 at the Koontz ranch eight miles north of Dillon on Highway 91 then two miles east on the Anderson lane. The sale starts at 1 pm and includes seven work horses one two year old colt one yearling colt seven milk cows two broad sows. Complete dairy equipment and farm machinery will be sold. Educators Leave for Convention in St Louis

President Sheldon E. Davis departed Dillon for educational meetings in St Louis from February 21 to March inclusive. He will engage with the American Association of Teachers Colleges and represent the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools. Dillon Elks Observe Americanism Week With Speaker

Dillon lodge No. 1554 B P C E marks Americanism week with a special meeting at the Elks home headlined by Department Commander George M. Gosman of the American Legion. An Americanism class of five candidates will be initiated. The program includes the Elks chorus and an instrumental ensemble, followed by refreshments. Gosman also speaks to Beaverhead county high school tomorrow at 11 am, while Leonard Schulz addresses training school students at 3 pm.

Bearded Aces to clash with Montana State Normal Bulldogs

The Bearded Aces representing the City of David of Benton Harbor Mich will face the Montana State Normal college Bulldogs in Normal gym Saturday night Feb 24 Coach Ray Gallant announced. The team formed in 1937 has a strong wartime schedule and was the lone bearded squad invited to the National Professional Tournament in Chicago last March.

Dillon Forest Official Wins Hardware Prize

Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Vanairsdale attended the Inland Empire Hardware Dealers association convention in Spokane where Mr. Vanairsdale won a $160 electric range. He previously served as assistant supervisor of the Beaverhead National Forest headquarters in Newport. Hubert Vanairsdale was elected president of his high school freshman class, and Stanley Vanairsdale became treasurer of his class.

Sheridan District 16 Class B meet eyed as tight contest

Beaverhead County High School Beavers with Coach Harold Babcock head to Sheridan for the District 16 Class B tournament seen as highly competitive. All eight teams have a shot at the zone crown with Dillon slight favorites, while Whitehall and Sheridan defeated the Beavers on their home floors. Dillon faces Sheridan tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. to close the first day.

Unemployment Chief Speaks at Dillon Rotary Dinner

Barclay Craighead head of the Montana unemployment office at Helena spoke on the state unemployment compensation act at the Dillon Rotary Club dinner. He noted the unemployment agency has the third largest Montana payroll, used about $5,000 monthly in Beaverhead county, and lists 10 500 employee accounts. He said benefits start after two weeks of unemployment and run up to 16 weeks. The agency operates bureaus across the state and helped 25 000 people find jobs in the past year. Harold Snow presided. Normal Will Host State Oratorical Meet at College

Prof Rush Jordan announced the state oratorical contest will be hosted at the college auditorium likely Friday May 3 with six University of Montana units plus Billings Polytechnic and Carroll College invited. Local tryouts determine the Normal representative for an afternoon extemporaneous speaking contest and an evening oratorical finals with substantial prizes. last hosting was in 1933.

Interest in Rifle Clubs Grows in Dillon Area

The Dillon Rifle club and Junior Rifle club report rising interest after a large turnout. F Seybolt led scoring with 256x300, Herman Peterson 240x300, with many others listed. The Dillon Junior Rifle club elected Dale Stinson president at a high school range meeting, with Bert Gaskill as VP, Boyd Koneig as secretary, and Stan Bradley as treasurer.
