Hartwig Theatre Opens In Helena With 700 Seats

The $65,000 Hartwig theatre in Helena opened to crowds for the initial performance of God's Country and the Woman with Baxter Tonney orchestra. The two and a half story, reinforced concrete building seats 700, features a 26 by 45 foot stage, five dressing rooms, a lavender and white ladies room, and a fire proof operator booth. The Birth of a Nation is planned for next Friday.

Beaverhead Becomes First Farm Loan Group In County

Fourteen Beaverhead farmers formed the Beaverhead National Loan association with capital of 42900 and ten member minimum. Members may borrow up to 1000 for ten years at low interest, repaid yearly at 135. Norman Holden chaired the meeting and the group plans to apply for 20000 and soon seek 100000 in loans.

Two Sessions of District Court Reported

Two brief district court sessions last week approved bonds of all county commissioners and scheduled several matters. Cases dismissed include O C Gosman vs Wm Lowery and J P Lossl vs Ben Van Houtin as settled. Citizenship hearings set for February 24 and Patsy Odi admitted to citizenship.

D W Griffiths epic Birth of a Nation screens at Hartwig Theatre with two performances on Friday. The production fills a vast stage with 18 000 performers 3 000 horses and a 10 square mile battlefield while depicting Civil War causes battles and Lincoln era reconciliation.

Dillon High defeated Blackfoot Idaho 57 to 20 in a game marked by a large crowd and strong defense. District tournament action in Helena will involve Butte Anaconda Helena and Missoula with six of seven trip players advancing to Bozeman if Dillon wins.

Child Has Hand Blown Off Playing With Giant Cap

Clyde Rash aged 10 suffered the loss of his right thumb first finger and part of the middle finger when a giant cap exploded in his hand while he pressed it against a cook stove. He was treated at Curtis hospital by Drs Thorkelson and Mac Millan and is reported to be getting along nicely.

Former Dillon Girl Dies in California

Miss Lucille Graeter, daughter of L. D. Graeter former Dillon residents, died in California at age 15 4 7 following jaundice after an appendectomy. Born in Salt Lake City during the Graeter family's Dillon years, she was nearly a Dillon girl. The Graeter grocery founder moved the family to Arcata in 1906 where they have since resided.

Beaverhead county hosts a statewide livestock gathering as horse buyers wool representatives and cattle dealers arrive for the February auction sale. Traders discuss lamb prices wool contracts and beef cattle offers while Madison and Beaverhead growers seek top dollar for lambs and steers with prices around 10 cents for lambs and 9 to 9.75 for beef cattle.

Guy Buster Faces Federal Charge Over Mailed Liquor

Guy Buster, 28, arrested in Armstead by Sheriff Wyman and jailed in Dillon for ten days before federal officer P. J. Moore took him to Butte. Charged with violating the Webb Act for mailing liquor to Salmon, he faces federal court action. His troubled past includes an Idaho murder conviction and a lynch-threat incident in Salmon.

Beaverhead Treasurer Receives State School Funds

H F Crittenden treasurer of Beaverhead county received eleven thousand six hundred ten dollars from state school funds as the county share. Each pupil will receive five dollars and fifty cents with districts to be apportioned April 30 based on October first enrollment.
