Beaverhead County secures a large portion of the Ninth District apportionment for road funding totaling sixty thousand dollars. The distribution highlights Beaverhead's share amid the district's statewide transportation allocation.
State engineers will survey the route of a new highway through Beaverhead county from Browne to Monida. Beaverhead to receive 60000 dollars in federal aid and state funds this year to start construction, with the ninth district share totaling 167000 dollars. Construction will advance as survey results and apportionment allow.
The jury list for the regular term of district court has been made out and summons issued for Feb 28. Names include Frank Baldwin Dell 8 F Bates Lima Farmer Bean Moni da George Bear Dillon Frank H Bimrose Dillon and others from Dillon Armstead J W Burrell Ben F Butler Wise River Henry T Cahill Dillon John P Carrol Jackson Nels P Christianssen Dillon.
Secretary William M. Jardine announced a phased raise in national forest grazing fees with full implementation by 1931. The plan, based on Casement’s study, raises cattle rates from 10.4 to 14.4 cents per head per month and sheep from 2.9 to 4.5 cents, applying to 10 year permits through 1934.
Beloved Beaverhead county resident Mrs Margaret Ross Roode died Thursday at her Argenta home. She had lived in the county for over 25 years and was widely esteemed as a young matron. The death came as a shock to friends across Beaverhead. Her funeral is set to be held locally.
Helena figures show Joffray bill would distribute auto license funds evenly among 56 counties, replacing the current system where 19 counties gain more. In 1925-26 total $1,302,238.81, averaging $23,254.25 per county, with Silver Bow and Cascade among top recipients.
Flames believed to have sparked on the roof damaged the Ernest Orr residence on South Idaho street occupied by Mr and Mrs Howard Morse last Sunday morning. Loss runs to several hundred dollars with part covered by insurance.
Two Dillon youths were committed to the state industrial school at Miles City last Thursday by Judge Henry G. Rodgers and were taken to the institution Friday in the custody of Joe Newnes.
The Santost quintet representing the City Baking Company leads Class A in the City Bowling League with 13 wins and four losses. Two teams tie for second place as standings show Wes tern Wholesale Pin Cleaners high near the top and the Jagie standings noted.
Dillon teams endured a rough week with five competitive outings. Beavers fell to Butte Central 20-10 in Butte and to Whitehall 15-11, while Normal lost to Montana Mines 15-12 in Butte and Mt. St. Charles 29-19 in Helena. The lone Dillon win came as Normal defeated Intermountain Union 46-17 in Helena.
Beaverhead high cagers split two home contests in Dillon. Taylor led the Normal with 10 as Stocking scored 12 for the Saints in a backward battle. Beavers rallied past Central 20 10, then fell to Whitehall 15 11 on the Dillon floor. Wright starred for Dillon, Kiely and Hanley for Central. The team heads to Anaconda Friday before district play in Missoula.
Regular monthly session of Beaverhead County Board of Commissioners convened in Dillon at 9 o'clock a m on Monday February 7 1927. Present were Commissioners Anderson Gosman Shaw Chairman and Acting Clerk Albert S Baker. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The record notes work performed by the commissioners and county agents in their districts. Continued on page 3.
Believed to be mentally unbalanced, Ben Smith a sheep herder threatened to shoot Henry Burfiend, local druggist, last Saturday afternoon. He demanded County Attorney T. E. Gilbert be removed over a ringing in his head, which he blamed on Gilbert.
Beaverhead County high school reports two students on the autumn quarter honor roll at the state university in Missoula. William C. Orr III lists an 88 grade total.
Beav erhead county wool buyers secure over a million pounds in contracts as the national wool market shifts from consignment sales. Dewey Gould and local agent George Melton lead early deals at 35 cents, with George Whitworth’s wool soon added to the list.
Beaverhead post of the American Legion announces the 1927 show dates March 3 4 and 5 with five acts in addition to the minstrels. New act by Edwin Pegram George Melton Hagel Jacobson joins four acts from Normal College and high school students under Margaret Galloway supervision.
