Pioneer Here William Heaney Dies at Warm Springs
William Heaney a Beaverhead county stockman died at Warm Springs last Thursday after a lingering illness. He was born December 28 1862 in County Cavan Ireland and came to America in 1886. Heaney lived in Dillon for years and ran sheep and cattle operations including the William Gilbert ranch. Survived by a brother a sister two nephews in Blaine and several nieces in Ireland Canada and Australia.

County Red Cross Hears Nurse Salary Report
The Beaverhead county Red Cross nursing committee met last Friday to hear Edith Nelson report on county work. Mrs. Gilbert said the group received 200 from the state Red Cross, 100 previously paid, and 500 donated locally, meeting the privately funded portion of the nurse’s salary with the remaining 1000 from the board of commissioners. The committee will meet monthly to stay in touch and Miss Nelson is teaching home hygiene to high school students with plans for an adult class. Those wishing to enroll should contact Mrs. T. E. Gilbert.

Dillon Man Back From Buying Trip To New York City
Charles H. Niblack returned Monday afternoon from a month long buying trip to New York city. He purchased a full line of spring wear and a complete line of children’s apparel to add to stock at the new location formerly occupied by the Dillon Dry Goods company. Beaverhead county high school’s fast basketball quintets travel to Missoula for the mining district tournament opener. The Beavers drew a bye in the first round and will play Friday winner of Anaconda Butte Central with potential state tournament bids in Bozeman.

Pioneer and Pony Express Rider Dies in Montana
Charles Higgenbotham, early Montana pioneer and long familiar figure, died yesterday at Barrett hospital after years of ill health. Born 1841 in Washington NL, he came west in 1864 and worked as a pony express rider with Wells Fargo and later as a stage driver across Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota. The American Legion plans its annual minstrels and vaudeville show on March 3 and 4 with two capacity houses. State commander Harry M. Johnson of Anaconda will join the chorus arriving for final rehearsals. Dillon entertainers Terry Browning Anterlocuter and director helpers Anson Baxter and Francis Tonrey lead a large local cast with twenty strong chorus voices. Rehearsals are underway at Hughes and McCaleb's venue as tickets go on sale.

Funeral for Wm. Gemmell Draws Dillon, Butte Crowd
William Gemmell Silver Bow county commissioner, killed in a leap from a burning building last Tuesday, was honored by many Dillon residents at Saturday funeral in Butte. Pallbearers included KE. B. Roe of Bedrock and Senator F. A. Hazelbaker served as honorary pallbearer. Gemmell was well known in the region and often hunted near Redrock lakes.

Automobile collision near Dillon ends in arbitration
Cars owned by W. EB. Kennison and Carl Kambich collided on the highway just south of Dillon at the Craig Cornell ranch entrance last Thursday afternoon. Both vehicles were damaged and the owners agreed to submit responsibility to a board of arbitration consisting of one appointee from each owner and a third member chosen by the two.

Masquerade Ball of Firemen Draws Hundreds in Dillon
The Dillon fire department held its annual masquerade dance drawing hundreds from Dillon and nearby areas.
