Equalization Board Sues Freebourn and Mitchell on Claim
District Judge George W. Padbury set February 21 to hear the state board of equalization's suit to force Attorney General H J Freebourn and Secretary of State Sam W Mitchell to annul their order approving a $149.91 claim to Lynde S Catlin, a Missoula stenographer. The board says paying the claim would violate law and their oath. The suit says Catlin drew up an exemptions bill for an appeal in a state dispute with a Missoula firm. The board denied owing for Catlin's services. State officials were told not to issue or pay the warrant until court resolves the matter.

Senate Bills Put Taxes in One Fund Sees Senate Defeat
By a 34 to 14 vote the senate defeated house bill 6 which would move all production tax and license receipts into the state general fund for earmarked appropriations. The house had passed it 82 to 13. Critics warned it could reduce school funding currently allocated to the common school equalization fund. Proponents argued it would create a safer, saner long term budget balance.
