46th Anniversary of Boy Scouting Observed Here This Week

Beaverhead county Scouts observe the 46th birthday of the Boy Scouts of America with window displays by Dillon merchants and a week of programs. A Jamboree at City Hall showcased skills and a Court of Honor awarded badges to Troop 64 and others. Next Sunday marks Boy Scout Sunday with services in Dillon churches.

NRM Ski Tourney At Tash Hill Set For Weekend

The Northern Rocky Mountain Ski Jumping and Cross Country championships will be held February 11 and 12 at Tash Hill below Elkhorn Hot Springs. Six local jumpers are expected along with entrants from across the state. Cross Country races Saturday and Jumping Sunday start at 1 am with public viewing and open eating concessions. Regular club meeting set Wednesday at 8:00 at Mrs. John MacDonald’s residence to finalize arrangements.

A Cub Scout window display in the old City Drug Store building organized by Mrs. Lu anna Lyons Den Mother highlights Den One of Pack 60. Nine Cub Scouts aged nine to eleven showcase butterfly mounts miniature houses decorated lamps and trophies with a center picture of the alert youngsters. Members named Benny Ryan Artie Mautz Jimmie Miller Roy Hall Jimmie Campbell Rickie Boetticher Jimmie Spahar Stephen Wheat and Stephen Selway. Den Chief Morgan Hall is absent from the picture.

Banks and offices to close for Lincoln Birthday observance

Dillon banks county offices and the State Liquor Store will close Monday February 13 for Lincoln Birthday. The post office and other Dillon businesses stay open Monday but close February 22 for Washington’s Birthday as designated by Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce.

Armstead High School Band Heads to Free Evening Concert

Residents near Armstead welcome a 3 piece Meaver high school band show tomorrow evening at the liening tack. The free program begins at 6 p.m. and is sponsored by the Horse Prairie Wranglers 4 H club. Orvis Stenson, the high school music instructor, leads the group. The lineup includes numbers praised at the Booster Concert attended by about 300 at the high school auditorium two weeks ago.

Mining course grows crowd at Western Montana College

Beaverhead county interest in mining and prospecting drives rising enrollment in a geology and prospecting course at Western Montana College. In three weeks the class has drawn 40 then 60 plus students, with local prospectors praising the program and guest speakers from Minerals Engineering participating.

Beaverhead county communities organize a Walking Blood Bank through the Beaverhead Laboratory Foundation. Members donate blood at any time to help patients at Barrett Hospital. eligibility is 18 to 55 with no malaria hepatitis or jaundice history. Call 860 for appointments.
