Dillon Man Missing Over Italy

Second Lieutenant Clyde J. Casterline twenty two of Dillon is reported missing in action over Italy since January twenty first. He piloted a P forty seven Thunderbolt and completed his twenty fifth mission before writing the timely letter home. He served in the Fighting Forty Seventh under Colonel Phil Cochran. Casterline enlisted February twenty six nineteen forty three and was commissioned April fifteen nineteen forty four in Phoenix Arizona. He went overseas in October and is a Beaverhead county high school graduate. He was married August sixteenth to Betty Sue Crow of Dillon now living in Galveston Texas.

Beaverhead Native George M. Gosman Named State Senator

George M. Gosman was appointed by the county board of commissioners to fill the uncompleted term of the late Thomas E. Gilbert. He will serve through the 1947 legislative session and any interim terms called by the governor. Gosman is a former Montana American Legion commander with service on national and state committees.

California buyer acquires 380 Hereford cows in Montana deal

Clifford B. Robertson of Los Angeles purchased 380 head of pure bred cows and 56 heifer calves from the A Bayers Hereford Ranch in Twin Bridges Montana. The calves, sired by Prince Diamond Evan Mischief Onward Advance and Select Domino, were noted as uniform and high quality. Robertson operates a desert ranch and a large Montana operation with 1500 to 2500 Herefords. Also bought were three bulls from Curtice Herefords Ranch in Stevensville.

Conservation program for year set by War Food Administration

The 1945 Agricultural Conservation Program aims to support farmers in war production while expanding long-term soil-building and erosion-control practices. Legislature adjourns for Sen. Gilbert in mourning in Helena

Senator Thomas E Gilbert Dies at Home in Dillon

State Senator Thomas E. Gilbert longtime Beaverhead County lawyer and legislator died Friday at 2 10 am at his Dillon home. The heart attack followed pneumonia and came after a recent legislative session visit. Born Feb 5 1889 in Wickes he served as Beaverhead County attorney and was elected to the Montana Senate in 1940 and 1944. He studied at the University of Michigan law school and served in World War I before resuming law practice in Dillon.

Byron Orr Killed in Action in Germany

Byron Orr of Dillon was killed in action in Germany on January 21, six days after receiving the Silver Star for gallantry in action. He served with a bazooka and demolition squad of the Third Army and had seen action in Metz and the Saar during his overseas service since last October. Hone name Hap Orr was widely known in Beaverhead County.

Former Dell Matron Cora Ben Crawford Dies in California

Mrs. Cora Ben Crawford, 67, longtime Beaverhead County resident, died last Saturday at her daughter’s home in Hydesville, California. Funeral planned Friday at 2 PM in Blackfoot Idaho with Bishop Richard Yancey presiding. Born February 20, 1878, in Burlington Junction Missouri, she lived in Dell, Blackfoot, and later California. husband Charles Edward Crawford died in 1941. Survived by three daughters Maude Crawford, Emma May, Magdelene Wilcox. three sons Leslie, Robert, Clifford. 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
