Montana State Normal and Beaverhead county high school teams faced heavy losses last week. The Bulldogs and Beavers lost all four games, with margins reaching decisive sums.Beaverettes won two district playoff games, defeating Whitehall and Cardwell to boost their campaign prospects.
D A Galt and T H Dubois replace J E Shaw and W S Tash on the county fair board following their resignations. The changes shift leadership as the board faces upcoming events and planning commitments.
Vincent Crimmens, 29, a former state university athlete of Butte, was instantly killed when a large oil truck overturned at Moose Creek hill north of Melrose early yesterday. Driver Lew Cooper survived with shock as rescuers freed the body after hours with three wreckers lifting the trapped man.
Beaverhead County High School hosts seven finalists in the extemporaneous speaking contest at 7:30 tonight in the school auditorium. Finalists were chosen from a Monday preliminary with fourteen participants. winners are Ivy Wentworth, Helen Hoffman, Donald Bayerd, Hiram Brundage, William Wellborn, Alma Olsen, and Mary Louise Taylor. Other competitors include Budge Gilbert, Henry Williams, Kathryn Strub, Edith Hansen, Henry Hignight, Irma Underwood, and Irene Hignight. The winner will represent the school in the district extemporaneous speaking contest.
AVID C HOERNING longtime Dillon resident died last Saturday in San Bernardino California after heart trouble and complications He was born March 2 1861 in Frankfort Indiana He lived in Missouri Dillon and California and is survived by his wife five sons Clarence Ernest Lester and two sons in California plus two daughters Mrs A E B Franklin and Miss Mabel Hoering The funeral will be held Friday at 3 pm from the fundage chapel with Rev J D Hithh of Grace Methodist church officiating and burial in Mountain View cemetery delayed remains being brought to Dillon for interment
Beaverhead county high school alumni association plans a Saturday night dance at the city hall auditorium. Baxter Tonrey orchestra will provide music and a ton of coal will be awarded as a door prize. Proceeds fund the next May’s annual graduation entertainment.
The Beaverhead county board of commissioners orders all local automobile owners to obtain new orange and black license plates. The sheriff is instructed to tag cars lacking the plates, distributed by Austin B Middleton, state registrar of motor vehicles.

The Beaverhead County board of commissioners appointed Thomas Dubois and D A Galt to the Beaverhead Pair association, replacing J E Shaw and W S Tash who resigned. C Anderson 68, brother of Clark and A L Anderson of Dillon and former Dillon resident, died last Tuesday in Maricopa California after brief illness. Born in New Bermingham Ohio, he moved to Montana as a youth and ran a stable with his brothers and partnered with Jack McLaren in a local blacksmith shop. Survived by four brothers and a sister. funeral held Friday in Bakersfield California. H B Duff of Portland visited the city and bought several carloads of cattle.
The Dillon branch of the American Air Cadets was organized last Friday at the training school with over 100 members anticipated. More than 75 boys joined at the meeting, each receiving a model plane and tool kit, and progress milestones determine advancement from grease monkey to pilot to ace.
In Beaverhead canyon south of Dillon a party led by Dan Mooney used fifty sticks of dynamite to blow two rattlesnake dens. The blast killed all snakes in the two dens and injured none, with many rattles as trophies. The event drew a volunteer group including J N Giles, Charles Bourquin, Tom Pinkerton, George E Baker and George Taylor.
The Normal college auditorium will host the third annual Booster club vaudeville next Friday evening. Top talent from college clubs will present music, dancing, and plays with humor and crowd-pleasing acts. The show includes a coronation of a vaudeville queen chosen by popular vote with four nominees Helen Berry Irene Bryan Mabel Talbott and Margaret Barlow.
Beaverdash County High School shop department responds to an offer to construct ranch jobs at cost. Students work on a meat shelter for H C Lapham and two hog self feeders for Poindexter and Orr. Freshmen test milk fat content for butter production. Ag club travels to Deer Lodge to play Powell County high and plans a Lima game with a dance after.
