Sheep shearers set prices for 1948
The Sheep Shearers union of North America set the 1948 universal price for shearing sheep. LaVor Taylor, president, announced at the National Growers convention in Salt Lake City that machine shearing is 25 cents per head with board or 29 cents if board is furnished. Blade shearing is a certain rate per head with or without board.

Quitman Owen Dies at Ranch Home in Dillon
Quitman Owen 93 longtime resident of Beaverhead county died Tuesday afternoon at his ranch north of Dillon after a long illness. Born June 16, 1855 in Henry county Missouri he and his wife moved to Montana in the 1890s. Survived by wife two sons Paul and Clifford two daughters in law and sons in law and several grandchildren. Remains at Brundage chapel awaiting funeral arrangements.

In 1873 trappers discovered rich silver ore at Trapper Creek Montana Territory. Noah Armstrong later bought the Trapper mine and led a mining boom that included Lion City Hecla and Cleopatra. By the mid 1880s Hecla mines produced over 20 million dollars in silver and lead for the West.

Mrs Clarice McBride 26 died last Thursday in an Omaha hospital of a throat infection. The body shipped to Dillon for burial with funeral at Brundage chapel officiated by Rev Walter Daggett. She lived in Beaverhead county much of life, born March 23 1921 in Lyons Colorado. She had recently joined American Airlines in Omaha. Mrs. Walter V Grimes county campaign director said the March of Dimes drive raised about $1 000, about $200 more than last year, with $554 55 from city sections and various schools. The State Supreme Court ruled that a new auto tax on vehicles brought into the state between Jan 1 1946 and Feb 14 1947 is valid. $2,694.20 collected by County Treasurer Alice H.
