War 1 Vet Waldemar Dies at Fort Harrison Hospital
Leonard F Waldemar 51 WWI veteran and Beaverhead county resident for 48 years died Sunday at the Veterans Administration hospital Fort Harrison after a lingering illness. Born September 29 1895 in Utah he moved to the area as a child and ranching dominated his life on Horse Prairie. Survived by three children mother and four brothers and five sisters. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm Brundage chapel with LDS rites and Mountain View graveside services by the American Legion.

Ski Tourney Held at Elkhorn in Midwinter Drama
Under the Northern Rocky Mountain Ski Association, a midwinter Elkhorn Hot Springs tourney drew contenders from adjacent counties. Anne Evans of Missoula won the girls downhill in 42.7, with Fay Waldemar second, while Kingsley Helmo led the boys in 36.6. Evans also swept Sunday slaloms with 77.7 total, as John Shields of Butte led the boys with 59.7. Beaverhead County Commissioners Hold Regular Meeting
Beaverhead county Montana held its regular monthly session January 5 6 7 1948. Commissioners Parker Scott Hirschy and Stahl plus clerk C W Buckingham were present. The resignation of county surveyor Leroy Gilbert dated December 31 1947 was accepted. Each commissioner was directed to inspect roads bridges and county buildings for the year and districts were assigned. A cooperative agreement with the U S Department of Interior Fish and Wildlife Service to control predatory animals for 1948 was approved with Beaverhead County contributing 5808 10 and the service providing supplemental funds for three hunters. Chairman signed the agreement January 6 1948. The clerk was ordered to advertise for sale one 1921 FWD 5 ton truck.

School Apportionment Report Shows Grazing Fee Distribution
County Superintendent Christine Opp and County Treasurer Alice Orr filed a report on apportioning 2133.94 dollars in grazing fees among districts for 1946 47. Delegation Targets Forest Highway Upgrade Along Idaho Line
Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce road committee members met Helena officials to push three agencies into agreeing on a six mile forest highway from the Idaho line to the Donovan ranch along the Leadore Armstead corridor. Former Dillon Resident Dies of Mine Injuries
Edward T. Tucker 52, a well known former Beaverhead resident and World Wars I and II veteran, died in a Vernal Utah hospital from injuries suffered in a mine fall. Born March 26, 1895 in Kansas, he later mined near Argenta. Survived by his widow and four children, with services to be held in Livingston.

Lima Man Fined for Third Degree Assault
Claude Starley of Lima was found guilty by jury in the justice court last Wednesday on a charge of third degree assault and fined 50 dollars by Judge Louis Stahl. A thirty day sentence was imposed but suspended. Co. Atty. W. G. Gilbert Jr. prosecuted. Mrs Starley was the complaining witness.

Check Artist Is Sentenced Monday
Leslie M. Smith, 52, a transient, pleaded guilty in district court Monday afternoon and was sentenced to three years in state prison for issuing a fictitious instrument. Sheriff Paul Temple arrested him Saturday night after the incident at a local clothing store. Smith waived preliminary hearing and admitted a prior conviction. He was taken to Deer Lodge Tuesday to begin his sentence.

Soldier Sails Home From Hawaii After Pacific Service
T/Set Carter O'Farrell, 38, former Dillon Montana rancher, and Mrs. O'Farrell sailed from Honolulu aboard the USAT Private Eldon H. Johnson for the mainland. Sergeant O'Farrell returns to the States for reassignment after serving with the Pacific Air Command since May last year, having left Beaverhead County in April 1942 to join the armed services.
