Vigilante Electric Cooperative Meeting Draws Large Crowd

The Vigilante Electric Cooperative held a well attended meeting last Friday at St James guild hall with 102 members registered and over 200 attending. Ladies of St James guild served lunch while coffee and doughnuts were offered to visitors. President C E Blinn led the business session as annual elections reinstated Blinn as president Gleed as vice president and Wheat as secretary. An exhibit with guides literature and contests greeted guests before the reception area where prizes donated by Dillon were displayed.

Rimel Awarded Lake Forrest Scholarship at Missoula

Evelyn Rimel Missoula county high School guidance instructor received the $2000 Lena Lake Forrest scholarship from the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's clubs. She plans to study vocational guidance for girls in the United States and use the research for a Syracuse University PhD thesis, possibly taking a one year leave.

Dillon Gunner Among State's Top Three Trap Shooters

Herman Peterson of Dillon Clarence Talcott of Twin Bridges and Ellsworth Cragholm of Dillon are listed among Montana's top trap shooters for 1949 in a Sports Afield release by trap and skeet editor Jimmy Robinson. Peterson led with 9740 points for 3,500 birds and is eyed for the all American team, while Talcott placed fifth and Cragholm eighth in state standings.

Dillon Resident Catherine Ross Dies at 92 in Mountain Home

Catherine Ross, 92, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Fred Bennett in Mountain Home Idaho. Born June 7 1857 in Nova Scotia she lived in Hecla Argenta and later Dillon. She leaves a daughter son in law William D Ross and J T Ross Jr a son and a grandson in Seattle. Butte Skiers Win Elkhorn Tourney

The grand larceny trial of State of Montana versus Charles Rosetti ended with a not guilty verdict after 90 minutes of deliberation at 2 15 p m. Rosetti was charged with stealing a whiteface bull from Parke Taylor on December 9 1948 to replace an animal lost on the Taylor ranch. The verdict removes criminal liability but does not affect a civil action over ownership of the animal.

Lee Brown Summoned at Vet Hospital

Harry Lee Brown aged 62 died at Fort Harrison on Saturday January 28. Born in Salina Kansas he moved to Beaverhead County with his parents in 1896 to ranch. A noted horseman he rode in many rodeos and was active in Beaverhead Post 20 American Legion with services conducted by the Legion. Pallbearers named Norman Jovitt Lester Kurtz J C Fuller Carl Robinson Richard Burns and Thomas Arthur. County Treasurer Alice Orr reports higher early year sales of plates and permits than 1949 up to February 1. Vehicle plates sold include 840 passenger car plates versus 792 last year, 550 truck plates versus 463, and 1860 drivers licenses versus 1656, with February 1 the legal deadline and a state period extending to February.
