At a joint Dillon meeting of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and ladies, initial steps formed an auxiliary with 23 signups toward a 60-member charter. Mrs. J. H. McLaren named organizer. full organization expected in 30 days to six weeks. Oscar awards will honor local outstanding citizens each month, with Chief Ott Vandegrift the first recipient and Police Chief Dan Mooney slated for December.

Fever Pairs Wedded Here During 1947
The Norman Giles district court clerk reports a drop in marriage licenses in 1947 from 1946’s record but remains above prewar totals. Through June there were 286 licenses, with 27 since July 1, due to Montana’s blood test law. June was the peak month with 68 permits, followed by May 41 and February 34. December had none. Museum Fund Reaches Eleven Thousand as Year Ends
Mrs. Fred Woodside, financial chairman, reported the museum building fund has hit the $11,000 mark with $2,500 still needed to reach $13,500. Beaverhead Mourns Thomas L Scott at 86 in Dillon
Thomas L Scott 86 a Beaverhead resident for 31 years died at his Dillon home on Kentucky avenue Sunday evening after a lingering illness. Born April 2 1861 in Glasgow he came to the United States at 16 worked in steel mills and a Leadville smelter became a naturalized citizen then moved to Butte and later to Horse Prairie ranch before settling in Dillon. He is survived by his widow a son and daughter in law five grandchildren a sister in law and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Brundage chapel with Baptist minister Rev Belle Long officiating.

The Harlem Globe Trotters faced the Normal College Bulldogs, drawing a capacity crowd. Janky Johnson scored 13 points as the visitors built a sizable lead, with a 34-27 halftime edge and a 74-68 final. The Bulldogs return Tuesday January 6 to host College of Education from Great Falls.

A calm holiday in Dillon County featured mild weather and family dinners across communities. Christmas Eve services at St Rose Catholic and St James Episcopal drew large crowds, with St Rose and First Lutheran holding Christmas Day services. St Elmo Commandery Knights Templar held a breakfast at the Masonic Hall. Police and sheriff reported no disturbances or highway accidents.

Father of Mrs Claudia Faust Is Summoned Sunday
Carl H. Peterson 69, father of the late Mrs Claudia Faust of this city, died Sunday at his Bozeman home. A well known Beaverhead County figure, he served as Montana's second county extension agent, was born in Sweden, emigrated in 1879, graduated from the University of Minnesota, joined the Montana agricultural experiment station staff, and in the past decade worked with the U S bureau of agricultural economics.

Infant Injured in Taylor Creek Collision Near Dillon
Six month old Katherine Reis, daughter of Mr and Mrs Kenneth Reis, suffered bruises and shock after a collision on Taylor creek hill west of Dillon. The cars were driven by John Knoll of Grasshopper and Mrs Hans Rasmussen of Big Hole basin. The Reis family rode with Rasmussen to attend a basketball game in Dillon.
