Reg Forest Supervisor P D Hanson of Missoula announced Elliott E Redman named to lead Beaverhead National Forest with headquarters at Dillon He succeeds W W Wetzel who served Sept 1 1944 to Dec 15 this year Redman has long service in range management wildlife survey and forest administration and will take office Feb 1 He is a 1934 graduate of Idaho University with four children.

Dillon lodge No. 1554 BPOE held its regular meeting on Christmas Eve and scheduled a New Year’s Eve dance at the I.O.O.F. hall for Elks and their ladies. Drum and bugle corps prize winners will be announced at the dance. Admission is by paid-up card with $1.50 per couple for a Thanksgiving dinner.

Mrs. Dougan Luebben, county chairman, reports a strong Junior Red Cross drive with 71.59 dollars from county schoolchildren. Twelve districts contributed including Beaverhead High School and Dillon primary, Bagley building, Jackson and more. Pupils completed many projects this year and sent overseas gifts and ten gifts to Boulder State schools. Mary Beth Smith and Dirk Larsen attended last summer’s Flathead Lake conference.

Petty Larceny Charged In Local Case
Howard Downer was returned from Idaho Falls to face petty larceny charges for stealing clothing from Steve Saro. Edwin Holmberg pleaded innocent to a petty larceny charge and is held on $500 bond for January 2 arraignment. A suitcase taken from the U P depot was recovered. Holmberg said he is on parole from San Quentin.

Santa Beats Beaverhead Children With Depot Lawn Christmas Party

The holiday season close was marked by Christmas parties at the training school. The Bagley students held an afternoon program with Garry Carson as announcer, an orchestra directed by L A Gregory performed, and the fifth graders staged a one act play led by Louise Hartwig. First Beaverhead County Bridge Contract and Jail Transfer
The Beaverhead County commissioners met in Bannack City on April 4 1864 creating a three member board with George Chrisman as chairman. On April 20 1864 bids were opened for a Grasshopper creek bridge near Judge Edgerton with detailed timber and covering specs, marking the county's first bridge contract. The board also reimbursed Bannack City $500 in scrip for the jail and sold jail to remain county property, a structure still standing in good condition.

Oil Truck Overturns Near Beaverhead River Bridge
Clyde MccReehan and Mace Riddle, both in the cab, escaped injury when the large oil truck and trailer overturned north of the Beaverhead river bridge south of Pillow. The crash, blamed on a broken tie rod arm, left the vehicle in a willow thicket but the cab rolled and the trailer stayed upright. Robert Wright of the state highway patrol reported the incident. the truck was towed by Watson Motors and moved to Laurel the next day.
