A compiled list from January to February details events in Dillon and Beaverhead County. Notable items include marriages, Ferderal prohibition actions, fires, funerals, civic meetings, a new fire siren, shop openings and closings, charity events, and local officials’ activities. Names of residents, businesses, and institutions appear throughout the ledger of daily life.
The Normal College closed Thursday at noon for the Christmas vacation ending the autumn quarter after exams on Wednesday and Thursday. Winter quarter starts January 2 with registration Tuesday and classes Wednesday. Attendance rose to 261 this fall, graduates exceed last year, and nine diplomas were awarded December 20. The 1923 group will be the twenty fifth class to graduate. Miss Hilda Hendrickson joins to teach English and dramatics next quarter with two credits for dramatics.
The Beaverhead county death records show a slight decrease in deaths in 1922 compared with 1921. Heart trouble and paralysis were the leading causes, with influenza identified as the only contagious disease resulting in fatalities.
Beaverhead county reports seventy nine marriage licenses issued in 1922, down from 81 in 1921, with November busiest at thirteen weddings. February and September tied for second with ten. July had nine. August outpaced June with eight and seven respectively. January, March, and December each had five weddings. April three. May and October two each. Notable couples include Rebich and Polish, Green and Polish, Brundage and Cooley, Denham and Renner, Lovelace and Bryan, Boka and Butala, Belo and Roberts, Marshall and Dillett, Goforth and Harrison, Smith and Smith, McMahon and Johnson, Cole and Strong, Bonnifield and Gordon, and Huchen and Robbins.
The Salvation Army brightened over forty Dillon families with turkey dinners and gifts as it resumes this work in town. Schoolchildren donated apples and vegetables, teachers collecting abundant contributions. The Christmas tree event at St James Guild hall distributed gifts to local poor children and wooden toys were sent to Twin Bridges Orphans Home.
A fire last Tuesday night razed the ranch house and barn of Tony Kruljac south of town. The origin of the blaze remains undetermined.

Beav erhead county recorded 95 births in 1922, down 28 from 1921. Of the 95 newborns, 50 are girls and 45 are boys. Two pairs of twins arrived, both girls. May had the most births, with January 7 births, five girls. February 10 births, seven boys. March 5 boys and 5 girls. April 5 births, 2 girls and 3 boys.
Senator Walsh seeks citizen views on a plan to set aside land in Beaverhead and Madison counties for a sheep experiment station at DuBois Idaho. Lands listed include numerous sections with hundreds of acres proposed for summer grazing. notices invite comments for or against the land withdrawals.
The ranch home of James Harrison on Grasshopper was destroyed by fire last Tuesday evening. The family escaped with only their clothes. The blaze started from a gasoline lamp explosion while being filled, and Mr. Harrison was badly burned.
Mr Henneberry underwent an operation for removal of tonsils during the recent week. The report notes W J Jennings was present and the details are recorded in the medical proceeding.
