President Rush Jordan of Montana State Normal College reports a total $425000 for improvement, maintenance and expansion from bond funds and surplus. The State Board of Education fixed the distribution at its Helena meeting on December 14, detailing allocations to normal college and other units of the Greater University of Montana.

Winter’s Record Low Hits 14 Below in Dillon
L. S. Osborne, weather observer at the Montana State Normal College, notes the winter’s coldest reading last Thursday night at 14 below zero. A chinook later eased temperatures to milder Dillon belt weather. Deep drifting from a Sunday wind storm, gusting to 62 mph, affected many parts of the county.

Longtime Beaverhead resident Thomas Sapp dies at Lima
Thomas Sherman Sapp aged from Beaverdam and Madison counties died last Friday at his daughter's home in Lima after a lingering illness. Born October 3, 1865 in Terre Haute Indiana, he moved to Dillon in 1882 and married Martha Mast in 1889 the first license issued after Montana statehood. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1939. Surviving are four of six children Howard Sapp Olive Quick Ara Stroeder and Cora Tash along with eighteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at Brundage chapel with Rev. J Thompson Baker presiding and burial at Mountain View cemetery.

Members of the Dillon Rifle club traveled to Twin Bridges for a rifle match with the Vigilante club. The Madison (Twin Bridges) team won 1368 to 1362. Henry Hignight led with 281, Buckingham 278, Koenig and Stark 276 each.

Schulz of Sheridan scored 39 and Johnson the Beaver center 38 in a four team District 16 B class invitational at the high school gym. Beavers edged Whitehall 42 40 for top honors after Whitehall beat Twin Bridges 48 25 and Beavers beat Sheridan 55 39 in Friday openers. Sheridan placed third by defeating Twin Bridges 44 24 as Dillon faced Whitehall in the finale. Beavers meet Butte Central on Thursday with B squads to follow.

Montana Normal Bulldogs won the opening game 59-46 against Westminster college of Salt Lake City, led by McMahan with 22 points and Tash with 11, but dropped the rematch 51-34 the next night as McMahan was held to a single field goal and Westminster led 29-16 at halftime. Wisdom Damaged By Fire In Big Hole Basin Town
A fire at midnight destroyed Hans Lausen's new hotel and the American Legion hall in Wisdom, Montana, as high winds spread flames through the business district. Firefighters dynamited the Legion hall to halt the blaze. several nearby buildings, including hotels and stores, were threatened and some cars burned. Partial damages totaled unknown.

Montana Water Board seeks funding for Beaverhead projects
The Montana Water Conservation board will ask the 1949 legislature for 1 420 000 to begin work on a backlog of 7 000 000 in repairs extensions and new projects. Beaverhead County includes the Kelly reservoir above Argenta 3500 acre feet 5500 acres and 74100 dollars and the Apex storage north of Dillon 8000 acre feet 4000 acres and 280000 dollars. Armstead dam is near construction with federal surveyors advancing recent weeks. Two Beaverhead projects are new state requests while five other projects are under federal consideration in collaboration with state departments.
