Officials in Silver Bow County investigate a man found dead near Melrose on Tuesday. Foul play is suspected after investigators learned he had bought food for a week and refused a money gift. The squatter resided on Union Pacific land for about a month. no violence evident, his head rested on a rock, and empty envelopes from Melrose groceries were found in his shelter. He had not worked during his stay and no food was found in the cabin.

Dan Shively Dies at Age 70 in California
Dan Shively a Beaverhead county resident for most of his life died in Los Angeles yesterday at age 70. He left Beaverhead for California about twenty years ago and had many old-time friends in the area. Survived by wife, sister Clara Chapman, two brothers in Great Falls and Akron, and two nephews Fred Chapman of Dillon and W E Chapman of Los Angeles.

Spuds Take Top Awards at Billings Show
Irvine and Cottom, premier seed potato growers in the northwest, won most prizes at the Billings corn and potato show. Spuds from the firm took four firsts five seconds two thirds and a fourth in certified and commercial entries. Potatoes included Red McClures Gems Bliss White Rose Katahdin British Queen and Chippewa. In certified seed potatoes the firm took two firsts one second two thirds and a fourth.
