Community train service aided nearly twenty thousand veterans

Dillon's committee reported 19 539 service men and women helped by the community train service over the past year. Receipts for 11 months reached 909.27 with expenditures of 803.79 for gifts distributed during the northbound morning train stopover. The jar revenue will be terminated though the service continues while funds last. Officers re elected include Mrs. Fred Woodside chairwoman, Mrs. Lois Hazelbaker treasurer, and Mrs. Dave Stratford secretary.

Two Quint Teams Set for Weekend Cage Action

Dillon fans will watch two high school basketball games over the weekend at the Dillon gym. The Dillon World War II Vets meet the Cheerio club quint of Butte Friday under the Citizens committee while the Beavers face Sheridan Saturday in District 16 action.

Homecoming Dance Set by Citizens Committee

Dillon hosts a service men homecoming dance at the city hall auditorium Saturday night under the Citizens' Committee. Over 250 in merchandise from local firms and individuals will be awarded every half hour, 68 total prizes. Music by Don Julson and his Golden Eagles, returned veterans, with Dorothianne Boka as vocalist.

Dillon Elks finalize arrangements for their New Year’s Eve party to be held Monday night. Diceited Ruler David Hier appointed a committee including Harold Murray, chairman, William Lloyd, Alfred Bay, William Hillstead, and Ed Wight to organize dancing and a turkey dinner for Ellis and their ladies only.

Funeral of Mrs Ulm Held in Forsyth Montana

Funeral services for Mrs Etha Ulm 81 of Forsyth were held at Brun dage chapel with Rev Lewis D Smith officiating. Buried in Mountain View Cemetery beside her husband. Born 1864 in Spencer Iowa she moved to Montana at 17 near Great Falls. Family notes Ulm Montana named for her family and 1900 move to Forsyth. Survived by son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Archie Henneberry prominent Beaverhead ranchers.

Charles Lloyd Claimed Last Night in Dillon

Charles Lloyd aged 74 a Beaverhead County resident for 59 years died at his Dillon home after years of poor health. Born January 15 1871 in Pioneer Montana he lost both parents with his brothers as a child and moved to Beaverhead County in 1886 beginning a life in the state.

Rotary Club Hears Music By Montana Normal College Students

Dillon Rotarians heard a music program by Montana State Normal College students and faculty at the weekly dinner. Ralph McFadden directed piano solos by Genevieve Cole and Alice Davis, a vocal by Olive Kennedy, violin and oboe by Vernon Taylor, and two selections by the college quartet. Ned Hatton spoke on the silver fox industry noting about 550 foxes are raised annually in Beaverhead County valued at about 100000 dollars. selective breeding has developed a pure silver fox strain.

AAUW Seeks Peacetime Use of Women in Armed Services

The American Association of University Women endorses making the WAC a permanent Army component and peacetime roles for Navy Reserve women. It backs permanent commissioning for navy nurses and women medical officers, therapists, and dietitians, plus reserve officer training for women on par with men.

Mrs Steed Named Head of Girls School in Helena

Elizabeth Steed, head of the Montana State Normal College school for exceptional children, was appointed superintendent of the Montana state vocational school for girls at Helena. The appointment takes effect Jan 1, after the board of education accepted Harriet Adams resignation. Steed will move to Helena during Christmas break.

Christmas Services And Festivities At Local Baptist Church

The church held a Christmas cantata The Choir of Bethlehem by Noel Benson on Sunday December 16 at the Bagley building school auditorium. A white gift service followed with gifts for shut ins county home residents and Little David Shag whose father William Shag died in Java. Additional events included a Santa visit at the county home and a series of parties by B Y F juniors and J O Y groups at various locations with caroling and planned visits to shut ins.

Dillon Man Dies at Masonic Home in Helena

Louis P. Michelson a 76 year old Dillon resident for 41 years died Friday night at the Masonic home in Helena after a long illness. Born in Norway on November 20 1869 he immigrated to the United States and came to Dillon in 1904 working as a tailor until retirement two years ago. He had no known survivors as his wife and only son died years ago. The funeral was Monday at Brundage chapel with Dillon lodge No 16 A F and A M in charge. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery with Leslie Smith of Ogden officiating.

Mrs. Belle Duff 83 Dies in Red Oak Iowa

Mrs. Belle Duff longtime Beaverhead county matron dies at 83 last Tuesday at a niece's home in Red Oak Iowa. Widow of Joseph H Duff Montana pioneer who died in 1941. Born in Michigan in 1862 she came to Montana in 1898 and ran a southern Beaverhead ranch with her husband. They moved to Lima and Dillon after 1930 and she lived in Iowa the last two years. Funeral and interment held in Red Oak.

Beaverhead High School Concert Delights Local Crowd

A large crowd enjoyed Beaverhead County High School music department’s concert last night in the high school auditorium. Dil lon Rotary club sponsorship and Fred Honeychurch direction guided a varied program. Proceeds will aid the student activity center. The program featured the symphony orchestra, flag swingers and twirlers, piano ensemble, girls glee club, and concert band with a featured number and dances directed by Claudia Faust.

Kids to Be Given Party Next Sunday

Dillon community children will receive their first postwar party under the big Christmas tree on the depot lawn next Sunday at 5 o clock. Civic plans include Christmas carols led by Mrs. O T Vandegrift. Gift bags of candy nuts and fruit will be distributed with Santa Claus likely present.

Beaverhead Legion Post Votes to Hold Monthly Social and Business Meetings

Beaverhead post of the American Legion, at its regular meeting last Thursday, voted to hold one social and one business meeting each month on the regular Thursday dates. Beaverhead County Conservation Deadline Set for 1945

December 31 is the final date to complete practices and submit compliance under the Agricultural Conservation program. Beaverhead County has $48 000 allocated to assist farmers and ranchers with conservation tasks including phosphating reseeding weed control and drainage ditches. In 1944 county farms earned 102 000 in conservation payments with activities such as irrigation system reorganization and fencing.
