Funeral of Mrs Duff Held in Red Oak Iowa

Funeral services for Mrs Dulcina Belle Duff longtime Beaverhead county resident who died in Red Oak Iowa Tuesday Dec 11 were held Dec 13 at Perryman chapel Red Oak with Rev I Fredmund of the Presbyterian church officiating Interment was in Evergreen cemetery Red Oak She was born June 13 1862 in Berien county Mich one of nine children of John and Lucinda Pettengill who moved to Page county Iowa in 1867 She had one daughter Mrs Osie Smith who preceded her in death She spent most of her life in Montana later living nearly fifty years in Centennial Valley where she was known as Granny for doctor nurse and undertaker duties Her husband Joseph H Duff died in 1941 in Dillon They had retired from ranch life and moved to Red Oak Iowa where she lived with niece and husband Mr and Mrs Albert Buehler 103 Washington Avenue She was a member of the Dillon Baptist church Surviving are grandson Farmer B Smith Sergeant First Class at Great Lakes Personnel Separation Center Illinois a brother J C Pettengill Altamont Missouri a sister in law Mrs F A Pettengill Villisca Iowa and several nieces and nephews

Nineteen Dillon Student Nurse Capped at MSU Ceremony

Sylvia Christensen of Dillon joined 47 other student nurses in a capping ceremony at Montana State College. The ceremony marked completion of two quarters of instruction, with Christensen set to finish two and a half years at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, including training at Galen and Warm Springs hospitals.

Ton y Kruletz Gunshot Victim at Ziegler Hot Springs Resort

Tony Kruletz, a former Dillon resident, was shot Sunday at the Ziegler Hot Springs resort on the Dillon-Twin Bridges road 20 miles northwest of Dillon. He was taken to a Butte hospital with a gunshot wound to the left lung. Investigators released few details as the case proceeds. Sheriff Claude Lay of Beaverhead assisted.

Mrs. Lyon to Lead Beaverhead March of Dimes Drive

Mrs. F. G. Lyon is named Beaverhead county chair for the March of Dimes campaign announced by John Sheehy. Funds support infantile paralysis prevention and cure, split with the National Foundation. last year Beaverhead donated 627.31, with hopes to exceed it.

Dillon Postoffice Ranks Sixth in Victory Bond Sales

The Dillon post office ranked sixth among over 300 Montana offices for Victory loan sales, with $28,087.50 raised. Great Falls, Dut ton, Walier, Opheim, and Anaconda posted higher totals. Beaverhead County stood 5th in E bond gains at 7.7 percent and reached 130.8 percent of its $90,000 quota with $117,700 subscribed. The county met its goal several days before the drive ended.

William J. Irvine Dies in California at 73

William J. Irvine 73 prominent Dillon potato grower died Friday afternoon in St. Vincent's hospital Los Angeles after a long illness. Born in Scotland in 1872 he came to the U S as a youth and later settled in Dillon engaging in seed potato farming. Irvine and Cottom shipped certified potatoes nationwide and to South America, expanding operations to Texline Texas. His death shocks friends in Dillon where he recently left with Mrs. Irvine for California.

East bench rancher Fred Bowers dies in Port Angeles

Fred Bowers former rancher on the East bench near Dillon died recently in Port Angeles Washington after a period of failing health. He lived on the East bench for years before moving to Washington about 15 years ago. Surviving are his wife Elna Bowers two sons Roy in the armed forces and Fred of Port Angeles and a daughter both also of Port Angeles.

Dental Clinic Held in Dillon for 416 Pupils

A Dillon elementary dental clinic examined 416 of 430 pupils. Superintendent O Kay Moe reported 114 had perfect teeth, 34 needed one extraction, 17 needed two or more extractions, 25 needed one filling, 226 needed two or more fillings, with a few needing five or six fillings. He thanked local dentists for their free service.
