Frederick Allen Gilbert prominent Madison county rancher died at Barrett hospital after a brief pneumonia illness. Born August 31, 1881 in Butte he was son of John R and Jane Anne Gilbert. He lived in Dillon and attended Montana State Normal College before moving about the Southwest. Funeral services were held Monday in Dillon for the longtime Montana family figure.

Bill Ballard Wins First in Art Poster Contest
Bill Ballard of Dillon won first place in the art poster contest conducted by Montana Business and Professional Women's clubs. His winning poster advances to the national competition. Passing of Gov. Cooney mourned in Beaverhead County
Montana mourns Gov. Frank H. Cooney who died of a heart attack in Great Falls Sunday night. The late governor was well known in Beaverhead County with many friends here and frequent Dillon visits. He married Emma May Poindexter in Dillon on December 27, 1889.

Past Forest Fire Season Was Menace in Region One
Absence of smoke led many to think 1935 was mild in Montana and North Idaho. Yet the region faced serious danger with 1,388 fires, 133 more than 1934, and class 7 fire danger spreading 1,500 to 2,000 acres per hour when uncontrolled. City Decorated for Season as Businessmen Fund Lights
Dillon businessmen last week donated over 700 dollars to decorate the business district streets with garlands of colored lights. Forest Bayerd designed the posts and the garlands, to be permanent fixtures for future holiday seasons, with more subscriptions welcome through Mayor D. A. The Oregon Short Line lawn was installed by the Dillon Rotary Club with Beaverhead forest service aid, and lighting is provided by Union Electric.

Beaverhead county reports delinquent taxes down by about 1500 dollars from last year. Treasurer Norah Connelley notes November collection of 106,864.12 in half payments and 65,062.10 in full payments totaling 161,916.22, with 4,278.54 in personal taxes. Delinquent totals reach 19,064.01, split 15,036.31 personal and 4,027.70 real. Last year contributed 23,669.76 in delinquent amounts carried over.
