Couple who lived here are victims of tragedy

Dr. H. O. Miller aged 66 and his wife aged 60 were found dead in their Hemet California home after a fire. Authorities call it murder and death by own action. Old timers recall they resided in Dillon over 30 years ago. Miller allegedly poisoned his wife then set the fire. investigators cannot determine cause of his death due to charring. A letter reportedly reads I am killing my wife and myself.

Rainbow Ripples Water Pageant Draws Crowds at Montana Normal

Members of the Dolphin club at Montana State Normal college presented the annual Rainbow Ripples water pageant at the college plunge. Marjorie Hamer directed with Mildred Spaberg assisting as crowds watched graceful swims and the Rainbow Maidens seek the pot of gold. Guest swimmers included Duane Duggan Mary Dawn Warner Charles Osborne John Osborne and Margaret Luebben. Dolphins from various towns competed.

Beaverhead County High Faces Class B Tourney Games

Beaverhead County high school's interclass basketball tournament runs this week with 12 boys and girls teams. Early rounds feature tight games and handicaps for veteran lineups. Finals are tonight at the high school gym with the Beavers vs Whitehall. schedule notes include Jan 10 and Feb 8 home and away clashes, and discussions on class placement following Whitefish's move to Class A. Commissioner Edgar B. Rife and Clerk Albert Baker traveled to Billings after a railroad commission hearing.

Sacred concert at Grace church by Montana State Normal College

Students conducted by Frances Robinson presented a sacred concert at Grace Methodist Episcopal church in Dillon. A chorus of over 60 men and women performed a cappella, a novel feature for the town. The program included nomette glee selections, Marjorie Tebeau vocal, Alta May Fidler piano, Frances Robinson violin, and a college mixed quartet. Dr J A Meeke delivered an inspirational sermon on Good Will Everywhere.

Gargoyle Club Presents Trio of Plays at College Auditorium

Gargoyles of the Montana State Normal college staged three one act plays to a large audience last night. Myrtle Savidge directed. The Twelve Pound Look featured Ruth Phelps Deer Lodge Helen Stephenson Belgrade Harry Miller St Ignatius Antrim Barnes Three Forks. The Burglar Who Failed starred Doris Binder Butte Betty Hirst Lewistown and Jack Gaines Winnett. Cassandra included Virginia Nichols Square Butte Gertrude Rooney Ross Fork Madalyn O Hara Fort Benton Henry Edwards Silver Bow Weldon Martin Kalispell. The Little Symphony under Frances Robinson performed. A autumn initiation and banquet will be held at St James guild hall tomorrow night with talks by president pledges Lucy H Carson and Robert Clark.

Beaverhead County Reopens Government Cattle Buying

The government resumes purchasing cattle in Beaverhead County adding 500 head to the prior allotment. Stockmen must list cattle with the county agent by class two year olds and over yearlings to two and under yearlings, include lien holders and grazing location, to help ease livestock feed shortages.

Precinct Consolidation Voted by Beaverhead Board

The Beaverhead county board of commissioners approved merging Brenner precinct No. 9 with Grant precinct No. 8 to form a single precinct. County Surveyor George Metlen will draw the new boundaries. Other consolidation proposals were rejected.

Charity Ball Planned by Dillon PTA at City Hall

The Dillon Parent Teachers association will host its biannual charity ball at the city hall auditorium next Saturday night, Dec. 15, with the Baxter-Tonney orchestra providing music. Proceeds aid ton sillectomies optical treatment glasses hot meals and milk for needy children. Admission is 75 cents per couple adults 50 cents for students and 25 cents for an extra lady.

The Beaverhead unit of the Montana Education association elected delegates and alternates for the mid winter conference in Billings. W W Wahl Nettie Hand Hazel Thomas were delegates with Julia Anderson Jessie Duboc and Gladys Burtch as alternates. Delegates were uninstructed.

DeMolays from Beaverhead Attend Anaconda Conclave

Thirty six members of Beaverhead chapter Order of DeMolay traveled to Anaconda last Thursday for a joint meeting with Anaconda chapter. Delegates from Butte, Deer Lodge and Philipsburg attended. Initiatory degrees were conferred on six candidates including Arthur Rocke Pete Best and Fred Wolfe from Dillon. Refreshments followed the session.

New Purchasing Program Closes On December 20

Beaverhead county receives 500 head allotment from AAA ahead of Dec 20 deadline. Cattle must be listed by that date to be eligible for government purchase. Previous program was suspended after about 3200 head sold. Williams notes trees planting applications for shelter belts are open at his office.

Court Terms for Year Set by Judge Bennett Beaverhead County

Judge Lyman H. Bennett announced the Beaverhead district court terms for 1935. The first term begins Monday January 14, postponed earlier due to illness of Court Stenographer F D Willis. Additional terms follow April 8 and others later in the year with criminal and civil calendar items.

Grand Master George W. Ravex Visits Dillon Masons

Montana grand master George W. Ravex of Butte and the A F and A M attended Dillon Lodge No 16s regular meeting at the Masonic temple Saturday night. The third degree was conferred on a candidate during the business session and Ravex delivered an address after a banquet supper.
