Washington reports that direct taxes heavily hit corporations and those earning over three thousand dollars while most people under that threshold paid little. The Internal Revenue Commissioner notes 2.3 million filers under 3,000 dollars taxable at under ten dollars each, and 666 thousand with over 3,000 dollars taxed for about 592 million dollars.

The Montana death toll from influenza and pneumonia reached 816 in October, with 109 deaths attributed to influenza alone. Early September saw the first cases, 40 deaths in October include 35 influenza pneumonia and five influenza uncomplicated. Dr. Cogswell notes cases waning in late November into December after Armistice celebrations.
Washington reports 000 to 350,000 civilian deaths from influenza and pneumonia since September 15 with deaths easing but epidemic persisting. War department records show about 20,000 deaths in U S army camps and life insurance liabilities exceed 170 million dollars.
