Trap Artists Shoot Turkeys At Dillon Gun Club

Nearly 50 trap enthusiasts from Southwestern Montana joined the Dillon Gun Club’s annual turkey shoot last Sunday. Thirty winners claimed from one to four birds, totaling 56 turkeys awarded. Herman Peterson led with four birds after handicaps, with Leonard Schulz Pete Westergard Jack Barrett and John Jackson each scoring three. Other top shooters included Otto Schulz Sheridan and several locals from Anaconda Jackson Lima Butte and Sheridan.

Unseasonable Rain Triggers Beaverhead County Auto Wrecks

Unseasonable rain and ice on Beaverhead county highways caused several crashes Saturday morning. Three accidents occurred on the Butte Dillon highway near the Big Hole bridge north of Glen, injuring none seriously. Drivers include Mrs Les Staudnemeyer of Blaine Mrs Quitman Owens of Dillon and John Wedum of Dillon.

Large Band At Work at Frigh School

Beaverhead county high school's band directed by L A Gregory has a large membership this winter. Post graduates and training school musicians join the ensemble which will perform at basketball games and other events. Water Pageant Presented At College Last Week

The Montana State Normal college staged The Wizard of H20 water pageant at the college plunge last Friday and Saturday under Miss Marjorie Hamer. Dillon Club Sponsors Snappy Show at Bagley School

A capacity audience enjoyed Dillon Capers an amateur entertainment by the Dillon Business and Professional Women club at the Bagley school auditorium last Thursday. Legion Auxiliary Dance Planned for December 16

The American Legion auxiliary rehabilitation committee announces a public dance on Saturday night December 16 at the city hall. Proceeds aid hospitalized veterans and needy families at Christmas. Mrs. F. G. Lyon chairs the committee with assistants Mrs. Paul Temple, Mrs. Rebecca Connelley, and Mrs. Luther Smith. A prize waltz and a door prize will be featured.

Frank Tate of Melrose Dead After 57 Years in Beaverhead

Frank P. Tate a prominent Melrose rancher and Beaverhead county resident for 57 years died at his home this morning. Born June 11 1861 in Boone county Missouri he came west to Beaverhead in 1882 settling at Glendale then Melrose in 1888. He was a well known local figure and a member of Bannack prospects.

December warmth surprises Dillon with record high

Dillon enjoyed its warmest December in years as temperatures rose to 64 degrees above zero. Official instruments recorded the unusual warmth yesterday signaling a rare December spell.

Gilbert Speaks on Swift Tour at Dillon Rotary Dinner

W. G. Gilbert gave the principal talk at the Dillon Rotary Club dinner, detailing his Swift Tour experience. The group visited Chicago Boston and New York to study meat packing including government inspection and Kosher supervision by rabbis. Swift and Company remains the largest packer with vast telegrams sent daily from Chicago offices. E. R. Hilger chaired the meeting with George Stewart as high school rep.

Funeral Services Held Friday for Dell Rancher Alva Garr

Funeral services for the late Alva S. Garr Dell rancher who died last Wednesday at his home were held Friday afternoon at the Grage Methodist church in Dillon. Mrs Loren Davis Named Campaign Chairman for Tuberculosis Seals

Mrs Loren Davis issued a statement clarifying the Red Cross Tuberculosis Christmas Seals campaign. She notes that in 1920 the alliance with the American Red Cross and the National Tuberculosis Association was dissolved after a 1910 agreement, and the double barred cross has appeared on all Tuberculosis Christmas Seals since 1907.

Santa Claus to Visit Dillon for Christmas Parade

Santa Claus will appear in Dillon on Monday December 18 as part of a large pre Christmas event hosted by local merchants and the Dillon Chamber of Commerce. Accompanied by Earl Hammond of Aurora Nebraska the visit features two Eskimo dog teams an igloo trailer a traveling Alaska curios museum and other attractions. The program includes a morning street parade a 3 pm Christmas show at Hartwig theatre and a Far North lecture by Hammond with lecture tickets distributed by merchants. The organizing committee is chaired by E W Bond with Erwin Christensen T Lee McCracken and Lambert Eliel in charge of parade publicity and arrangements.

Teachers to Attend Meeting in Butte

Pres. Sheldon E. Davis and Supt. Paul Anderson attend the executive board meeting of the Montana Society for Study of Education in Butte Wednesday evening. Davis will stay Friday to visit city schools. Preparations are underway for the annual residence halls Christmas party Friday night. An informal event invites all college women. Saturday evening a sports dance will be held in the rec hall.

Dillon Elks Hold Annual Memorial Rites

Dillon Elks held their annual memorial services at the new Elks home on Bannack street. Rev Father F X Lechner delivered the keynote on Patriotism and peace. Exalted Ruler Frank Lasich led the memorial ritual as the orchestra and soloists provided music. Memorial names of members lost since December 1938 were read including Jack Barrett and Joe Metlen.

Wise River stockmen push to reopen elk season

A Wise River and Divide delegation visited Helena on November 27 to urge reopening the elk season in the Jerry Creek district of Beaverhead National Forest. They cite light takedown this season, elk damage to private hay and pasture, and warn a hard winter could worsen winter kill and threaten private forage while arguing there is room for both elk and cattle.
