Nels Rundberg Rites Held at Melrose Presbyterian Church
Funeral services for Nels Rundberg were held at Melrose Presbyterian Church with Edward Mitchell officiating. Interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery in Dillon. Rundberg, 81, long a Melrose and Hecla resident, died after a period of ill health and a stay in a Butte hospital. He was known for kindness and neatness and transformed an old barn into a cottage on back street lots, planting flowers and maintaining a tidy home. The obituary notes his daily walks, generosity to children, and cherished memory among Melrose friends.

OPA urges continued vigilance in wartime inflation fight
In Montana the Office of Price Administration urges checking ceiling prices and reporting overcharges to curb inflation. New wartime measures cap men’s army mackinaw coats at 12.50, and anti inflation week events mark Pearl Harbor day with programs in 13 communities. Tire quotas remain tight and nylon stockings will drop in price to about 1.20 to 1.55 per pair with 45 or 51 gauge options.

Food supply improves as rationing eases
Removal of rationing on all foods except sugar signals supplies catching up with domestic demand. Military needs for food are sharply reduced, livestock slaughter up, poultry and milk production at record levels, and prospects point to a record egg supply in coming months.
Movement of Cattle to Feedlots Heavily Increased
Cattle are moving into feedlots at a rapid rate and, if continued, near record numbers will be on feed by early next year. Reports from feeder states outside the corn belt show gains, led by reduced feeding in the Southwest due to lower feed production and late winter wheat pastures. In the Corn Belt frost damage to corn has boosted demand for feeder stocker cattle with heavy shipments. October arrivals into the area were the largest on record for that month.
