Our service personnel visit families between furloughs with locations including Topeka Kansas March Field California Boca Raton Florida and a Texas camp. Local registrants are called for pre induction physicals at 8 15 a m on December 3 to go to Butte. A Dillon Citizens committee plans a Dec 22 dance and merchandise raffle at city hall auditorium with donations from local stores and raffles every 30 minutes.

Shakespeare Club Plans Scholarships for State Normal College

The Dillon Shakespeare club announced last week it will raise funds for scholarships at Montana State Normal College through a series of entertainments. The scholarships, aimed at supporting teacher training, will be offered with the second semester starting Feb. 4, 1946.

Legion backs college plan to aid returning veterans

Beaverhead post of the American Legion endorsed Prof. Paul Anderson’s idea to advertise college facilities to returning service members. He noted a teacher shortage and praised the normal college’s training program. Delegates were named to the mining district convention in Butte to push for a surplus commodities depot in Montana.

Dillon Elks Plan Memorial Service for Departed Members

Dillon Elks lodge will hold its annual memorial service next Sunday December 2 at 7 p m in the LO OF hall. Exalted Ruler David Hier urges public attendance to honor departed members. Cahill Mooney Wins Beaverhead Bridge Contract

At a Montana Highway Commission meeting in Helena the Cahill Mooney Construction Co of Butte was awarded the contract to build a bridge across the Beaverhead River on Route 91 south of Dillon. The project replaces the narrow Van Camp bridge three miles south of the city and is slated to start soon. the firm previously built Beaverhead County High School.

Dillon AAUW hears veterans at November meeting

Members of the Dillon branch of the American Association of University Women met at Mrs. Sheldon E. Davis’s home for the November gathering. Bob Gregg, a college junior, and Vernon Taylor, a music instructor at the Normal, shared war experiences and reflections as returned veterans.

New Pastor Joins First Presbyterian Church

Dr. J. Thompson Baker arrived from Honey Grove Texas to assume the pastorate at the First Presbyterian Church here. He fills the post after Rev Calvin Logan left. Baker holds a PhD from the University of Chicago and a Berea College degree. He taught 19 years at Southwestern College Winfield Kansas and led the College of the Ozarks. He has lectured on Chautauqua platforms and has two sons and a daughter.

Ted Williams Dies at Dillon Home

Edward H. Williams 65 was found dead at his West Dillon home Monday morning from a cerebral hemorrhage after returning from town. A Beaverhead resident 38 years, he was born in Cornwall England on December 25 1880 and later worked in farming mining and the Glendale gardens. Surviving include a sister Anna Kent in Colchester England and several kin in California. Funeral services Thursday at 2 pm at Brundage chapel conducted by Rev. Lewis D. Smith with Masonic graveside rites at Mountain View cemetery.

Civic Group Announces Christmas Window Week Contest

The Dillon Chamber of Commerce publicity committee adopts plans to decorate the city for Christmas with a window decorating contest running December 17 to 22. Judges will choose first to third prizes for one window per business firm based on spirit attractiveness and originality. The Rotary club will sponsor a depot lawn tree, the Elks lodge considers a prize for best residential tree, and Kiwanis participation is noted.

County AAA keeps officers after weekend vote

Beaverhead county AAA will keep its officers for another year. Floyd Kenison of Dell will lead as chairman with Mark Clemon of Jackson as vice chairman and Luther Smith of Dillon as a third member.
