Memorial services are planned by the Elks Lodge for next Sunday at the Training School. The event will include the annual rite and Sunday evening memorial services.
Dillon Ellis plans a memorial service Sunday at 7 30 pm in the training school auditorium. Principal Conrad O Orr will give the address with a Dillon Choral Club program and Elks quartet performances. The Elks memorial ritual will be led by Exalted Ruler Matt Kay and lodge members are urged to attend.
A four member Montana Grazing District No. 5 delegation will travel to Salt Lake City for a grazing officials conference from December 9 to 11. Attending are W. C. Jones Wise River Frank O Connor Townsend Frank Husted Wise River and W F Garrison Zeichle. O Connor was elected chairman of the advisory board at its first meeting in Butte.
Western States Entomologists meeting in Pocatello Idaho urged federal government funding to support control campaigns against the Mormon cricket in nine western states. Local counties would provide materials equipment and transportation under the plan says Dr A L Strand Montana State College entomology head.
The El len May guild dedicates its annual church praise service to the centennial Whitman Spalding expedition. The program highlights young missionaries and wives who endured hardships in the frontier Oregon Territory, teaching farming methods and establishing early schools. A silver offering will be taken at Presbyterian church Sunday evening Dec 6.
Mrs Carrie Nesbitt Dunn died at Holy Cross hospital in Salt Lake City after a major operation. Born July 7, 1887 at Medicine Lodge to the Wadams, she lived in Beaverhead county most of her life with her husband William Dunn Sr. Funeral services were held in Blackfoot Idaho with interment there. many Dillon friends attended.
Three railroads announce construction of two new lightweight streamliner trains in Chicago. The City of Los Angeles and City of San Francisco will cost about 3 million dollars, replace the existing streamliners, and be built in Chicago by Pullman.
W B Willey takes over as supervisor of the Beaverhead National Forest at Dillon, succeeding E D Sanding who moved to Missoula last summer as assistant regional grazing chief. Willey has long experience including roles at Clearwater, Jefferson, and the merged Lewis and Clark forests. The Beaverhead oversees large grazing and runs a bigger staff than Lewis and Clark.
The Montana Tuberculosis Association sponsors the annual Christmas seal sale in Dillon with the Dillon Shakespeare Club as host. Mrs. T. J. Carney chairs the effort, supported by Mrs. T. Lee McCracken Mrs. Carl Taylor and Miss Genevieve Albertson. Seals may be mailed or left at post office booths on the three Saturdays before Christmas with 95 percent of receipts staying in Montana.
The Chanticleers plan an autumn quarter initiation at President Sheldon E. Davis’s home this Saturday night. Members to be initiated include Betty Long Janet Smith Juanita Pace Pauline Nelson Dorothy McFadyean Vivian Chamberlain Hazel Hamilton Thelma Bartlett Roy Hansen Ethel Kennedy Dorothy Perkins John Stephens Bill Bayerd Nick Kovick Dorothy Ann Davis Alice Fox Maxine Adams Alice Barner Ann OConnell Beth Belden. President Davis returned from Helena after attending a University Executive Council meeting discussing inter institutional relations and future plans.
The Texaco super service station at Glendale and Washington streets opened last Saturday in Dillon. The white stucco building features glass offices, a hydraulic grease rack, wash room, three electric pumps, 24 hour service, and is allied with the bulk plant north of the city managed by Lee Hoerning. Lorin E. Davis leads the station with staff Bill Davis Don Campbell Harry Christensen and Smith Paddock as the crew. Texaco products are used exclusively.
Harold Cochrane aged 19 of Salmon died early this morning after a dramatic rush to a Butte hospital. An airplane and an automobile were used in a race against death yesterday but could not save him.
The Wisdom Women's club hosted the fourth annual benefit supper and dance at the Masonic hall on Saturday November 28. Residents from the Big Hole area including Jackson and Wise River attended a chicken dinner and danced to the Baxter orchestra from Dillon, with funds expected to cover next year’s library operations.
Beaverhead county home demonstration agent Miss Lillian Stone departs for Bozeman for four months. Mary Hansen of Dell receives a 4-H honor medal. Dillon Choral club presents its annual sacred concert at Grace Methodist Church led by Mrs. W. G. Gilbert with notable performances and remarks by Rev. J. A. Meeke.
Members of the Montana State Normal College glee club sang four numbers at the Dillon Rotary Club dinner at the Andrus Hotel under Arnold Clair with Ellen Watson on piano. Dr. R E Albright spoke on current affairs warning of German Japanese entente risks to communism and Russia and the upcoming inter American conference in Buenos Aires with Roosevelt as host.
Twelve members of the Dolph ins swimming club at Montana State Normal college stage their annual water pageant Dress Parade at the college pool on Friday and Saturday nights December 4 and 5 at 8 oclock. Under Miss Marjorie Hamer the show features fancy fire diving six pointed star formations revolving wheels shadow swimming tandem groups lattice work and more with finals where sparklers form little stars in the water.
Clerk Albert Baker's office mails notice to all registered Beaverhead electors who failed to vote in the last general election. The letters inform them their names will be removed from the electors list and urge immediate re registration if they wish to vote in the next election.
Joseph S. Quinney president of Logan temple and former Northwestern States Mission head spoke at the Dillon chapel last Friday. Pres. E M Gittins of the Butte branch attended as a guest. The gathering featured talks and several musical numbers.
