Funeral Here Was Honor for Beaverhead Youth
Albert Conrad Polish a Beaverhead county youth and Navy veteran died last Wednesday at Mare Island Naval Hospital California after a brief peritonitis illness. He served on the U S S Pennsylvania and was en route from Seattle to Los Angeles when he fell ill. Body brought to Dillon and funeral held Monday at St Rose Church with Requiem High Mass by Father Timothy Clifford. Interment at Mountain View Cemetery. Beaverhead American Legion post gave military honors at the grave. He was 20 and had visited friends in Dillon recently during a motorcycle trip to Pittsburgh and Chicago.

Stabbing Affray Leaves Ras Erickson in Serious Condition
Ras Erickson, 45, remained in serious condition at Barrett Hospital after a pocket knife wound punctured a lung during a confrontation in the Lobby soft drink place on North Montana street. Tex Elliott, 56, was jailed on the stabbing charge, held by Undersheriff James A. McCollum and Deputy W. E. Barry, with details still under investigation.

For over three weeks smoke pours from a subterranean fire on the Harrison ranch in Grasshopper valley. Vegetation is scorched with no visible flames except when surface grass ignites, the blaze has advanced 400 yards since late July, possibly from an old peat bed beneath the meadow near Grasshopper creek.

Two Million Fewer Sheep in Montana Yet Wool Output Rises
Montana woolgrowers report a 25 percent drop in sheep since 1900, from 6,170,000 to about 4,079,000, while the 1933 wool clip is projected at 33,600,000 pounds, up from 26,021,000. Citywide driver permits go on sale at water office
Permits for operating motor vehicles on city streets are on sale this week at the water office in City Hall. City Treasurer F C McFadden sold 61 permits on the first day. The ordinance requiring licenses takes effect September 1. Information on each permit includes operator name age sex height weight eye and hair color occupation and address with operator signature. Rev and Mrs J M Adams and son Donald of Pullman Washington arrived in Dillon Sunday August 13 and departed for Yellowstone Park spending six days there.

Jail Break Frustrated By Officer
L. W. Pryor, a suspected burglar, attempted to break from Beaverhead county jail after dark Monday. Undersheriff James McCollum stopped the escape by intervening when Pryor struck him and then smashed a window with a wooden stool. The officer retaliated with a blow to Pryor’s head, halting the attempted break.

Funeral of Mrs Freeze Held in Dillon
Mrs BH H Freeze former Melrose matron died last Saturday at her Champion Alberta home. Her body was brought to Dillon for a St James Episcopal church service officiated by Rev H N Tragitt with interment at Mountain View cemetery. A Melrose native she moved to Canada about 15 years ago and was sister to David Van Evans of Melrose.

Three-Day Sage Hen Season Set in Beaverhead County
A three day sage hen season opens in Beaverhead County starting next Saturday and continuing Sunday and Monday. The daily bag limit is five birds per person with a maximum of five in possession at once. Other upland birds remain closed statewide this season.
Normal College Student Victim of Gas Explosion
Miss Dorothy Somerville 19, a popular Montana State Normal college student, died from fatal burns after gasoline used to clean clothes exploded in the Livingston basement. Her mother also suffered fatal burns. Somerville had attended the college for the past year and was active in campus life and May queen candidate last spring.
