A Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce committee outlined plans for a Pre Rodeo Party for Beaverhead County children and visitors. Merchants will donate up to four dollars per merchant for prizes and materials. The event, the second of its kind, will feature games and prizes for all ages and will be held in Dillon in connection with the rodeo.

Cattle Kate Visits Dillon in Men's Workwear
Cattle Kate, the only name she uses, spent a few days in Dillon from Birch Creek. She came to Beaverhead County about ten years ago after her husband died in a rodeo accident at Cheyenne. She works in men's clothing, performs haying and horsebreaking tasks, earns equal wages, and may enter the bucking contest at the Dillon rodeo.

Beaverhead county named a three man draft board Berg Christensen E J Donovan and S F Erwin Gov Sam Ford announced last Sunday A draft headquarters has not yet been chosen with an organization meeting planned to prep for registration by Aug 20 The army expects to induct about 15000 men under the new draft law in early November Maj Gen John E Dahlquist estimated draftees will begin training between Nov 1 and 15 He noted selective service coordination and a 60 day window for inductions after a manpower order Our forces must plan for training and accommodations and enlistments will influence how many draftees are needed monthly The surge in enlistments raised Army draft plans and last month the Army and Air Force signed up 51461 men far above expectations

Carlisle Indian star in Beaverton haying season
Old time fans note Charles Platero known as Little Twig from the Carlisle Indians is staying at the Harson ranch in Grasshopper near Beaverton during haying season. He played with Jim Thorpe and helped defeat Harvard in 1916 as quarterback who called the signal behind his own goal line that sparked Thorpe on a 103 yard touchdown run.

Man Apprehended After Lima Post Office Break In
Hearing of broken glass last Saturday night near Lima led to quick alerts by James E. Anderson and Sheriff Marshall Peterson. They helped capture Don William Stachen 33 of New Britain Conn during an attempted post office robbery next to the Merrell hotel. Post Office Inspector R F Howe from Butte checked the scene. Stachen was moved to Dillon and faces U S Commissioner arraignment after transport to Butte by Sheriff Temple and Peterson.
