Beaverhead county's tax levy for county purposes remains at 27.84 mills with no increase from last year. A small rise of 0.49 mill in trust and agency levies and a 0.25 mill rise in the state general fund are offset by a 0.25 mill cut in the Greater University levy.

Orphans Thank Dillon for Hospitable Home Visit
Children from the State Orphans home at Twin Bridges enjoyed a warm welcome in Dillon last Tuesday. G. H. Davey, president of the Home, thanked Mayor D. A. Galt and Dillon citizens in a letter praising the hosting community for organizing and supporting the outing. He noted the event required significant work and funding.

Beaverhead Youths Win Fair Awards in Great Falls
Beaverhead Future Farmers and 4-H Club members won multiple awards at the North Montana fair in Great Falls. A Hereford baby beef shown by Harry Tash Jr. placed third in medium class and sold for 19 cents a pound. two Short horns shown by Charles Green sold for 11 cents. The stock judging team tied for third, and other prizes went to Green, Pahnish, Latimer Smith.

China Topic of Talk at Club Dinner

Methodist Pastor Is Asked to Remain Here
The Rev. J. A. Meeke and Mrs. Meeke were praised for faithful work at the Grace Methodist Episcopal Church quarterly conference and asked to stay for another year. The sixth year under the present pastor closed with progress in all departments. District Superintendent Rev. Reuben Dutton of Missoula presided and resolutions were passed to thank him for his support as this is his last visit in his role.

Ranchers in the Big Hole basin pursue their largest harvest of wild hay, with thousands of tons expected and the best yield in years. Beaverhead county also reports lower tame hay due to water shortages, while Dillon and Butte workers join hundreds more in the long gathering season. John Carr son of Mr and Mrs F M Carr was elected president of the Montana Jambo Buddies an organization of Montana Scouts who attended the National Jamboree in Washington D C this summer He succeeds George Kennedy Anaconda Eagle Scout who was elected in Washington but died after an appendicitis operation on his return home.

Ranch Laborer Injured in Haying Mishap
Ray Jenkins was injured when a team of horses bolted while he drove a mower at the John Peterson ranch on Horse Prairie. He was taken to Barrett hospital and then transported by Herman Peterson to Dillon in 25 minutes. Jenkins was released the next day.

Graduation Held Today At Montana State Normal College
Dr. Robert E. Albright delivered the summer term commencement address on the topic What Next at the Montana State Normal College. President Sheldon B. Dillon League Nine Withdraws From State Race
Dillon's state league baseball team pulled out of the season due to player shortages with five games left. Commissioner William Steele notified the league president Monday that Dillon could not fulfill the engagement with East Helena. The club, winless in five games, lost 7-2 to Missoula and 25-9 to Butte after tying 9-9 in the sixth.

Local Agent Short Line Retires After 48 Years on Railroads
Harry B. Bamberger, Oregon Short Line agent in Dillon for 11 years, retires on full pension after 48 years on Western railroads, 34 years with Union Pacific. He plans to stay in Dillon and expects to visit relatives before returning. Tom J. Carney named temporary agent to succeed him after long service as ticket agent and telegraph operator.

Mrs Gillies Hurt In Auto Wreck Near Dillon
Mrs Anne Gillies of Dillon sustained painful though not serious injuries Thursday night when two cars collided in a unique accident at Van Camp bridge four miles south of Dillon. A sedan towed by an Idaho car crashed into a Dillon machine driven by Fred Kerr. Mrs Gillies and her daughter Geraldine were passengers. The tow car driver James Martin of Thornton Idaho failed to miss the Kerr car. The collision tied up traffic for over twenty minutes while wrecked vehicles were removed. Sheriff Paul W Temple and deputies investigated and Martin was told to report next morning. Kerr and Mrs Gillies daughter escaped with minor injuries.

Veterans to Install Staff Tomorrow at Canyon Resort

Dillon Boy Wounded By Exploding Shell At City Dump
Gordon Cole a Dillon boy was wounded last Saturday when a shell exploded while burning refuse at the city dump west of Dillon. The leaden slug struck his ribs and glanced off leaving a painful flesh wound. His uncle Amos A Elliott was with him at the time.
