W. W. Thibideau, a prominent Dillon resident, died yesterday morning from a heart attack at his residence. The community mourns the loss of a longtime figure in local affairs and business.
W. W. Thibideau, a prominent Dillon businessman and head of the Dillon Audit Company, died at his home on Kentucky Avenue after a heart attack. He had been ill for a week and his health had declined for years, with his death sudden and shocking to many.
Grand Exalted Ruler Walter F. Meier will be guest at opening day activities tomorrow. He will deliver two addresses during the day as part of the three day convention program at Antlered Head.

Beavershead county ranchers report steady hay harvesting with large operators finishing the big job. Frank A. Hazelbaker led in the Big Hole basin by stacking the last of his wild hay last Thursday from his C Bar D ranch yielding about 2400 tons. The crop matches prior years in quality and yield, with drought limiting a second alfalfa cutting. Separately, the Montana Elks hold their 31st annual convention in Dillon beginning tomorrow with Grand Exalted Ruler Walter F. Meier as guest of honor, featuring rodeo events, trapshooting, parades, concerts, and multiple banquets.
Members of the Dillon Gun club complete plans for a major event tied to the Elks state convention. The registered shoot features seven daily events starting at 8:30 a.m each morning with cash and merchandise prizes donated by local Dillon merchants.
Two former Dillon men passed away recently in California. Robert Miller, 50, died of a heart attack at Pomona and was a longtime East bench rancher. Surviving are his widow, two sons and a daughter. P. G. Osborne, former janitor at Montana State Normal College, died July 27 in Los Angeles, leaving a widow and a daughter. Bert Lewis, 60, died at Barrett hospital after two weeks ill and was connected to the Harry Davis ranch near Jackson. he leaves a son in Oregon and a daughter and brother in Nevada.
The Beaverhead and Lemhi Mining associations plan the annual Montana Idaho picnic at Gibbonsville Idaho on Sunday August 20. Prominent speakers including F A Thompson of the Board of Mines will address attendees and the Salmon band will perform. Roads to the site are described in continuation notes.
Charles Y. Reeder, a prominent Montana pioneer and founder of Dillon, died last Friday in Los Angeles at age 97. He first came to Virginia City as a freighter in 1866. His body was returned to Dillon for the funeral.
All Dillon business houses will close tomorrow afternoon from 1 to 6 o'clock for the opening day of the firemen's annual rodeo. They will not be closed Friday and Saturday afternoons.
A meeting in Lima discussed enlarging the Lima Dam as a regional project. Bill Gray’s two day wild west rodeo is planned for September 3 and 4 at the George Roe ranch, with Broncho riding bareback riding and rop events among the featured attractions.
At a conference of valley ranchers a reorganization meeting discussed enlarging and strengthening the Lima dam. The Water Users Irrigation Company absorbed the stock, planning improvements that would raise the dam, enlarge the reservoir capacity from 60 000 to 100 000 acre feet, and double the water supply for stockholders.
Jean Jacques Pfister, titled the lyrical painter of mountains, visited Beaverhead County for a week. The Rollins College faculty member and his wife painted water color scenes in Ban nack Dillon and Big Hole basin visiting Mr. and Mrs. Martin C. Jackson.
Beaverhead county bonds should be just as safe as United States bonds, declares I M Brandford commissioner of state lands and investments in a letter to Clerk and Recorder Albert Baker. He notes the state cannot bid on 61681.67 dollars of Beaverhead county bonds to be issued.
George Orlovich and Albert Hoffman, named as alleged Butte swindlers, were arrested Monday night by Sheriff W. C. Orr and Deputy Sheriff W. E. Barry. They were taken to Mining City to face a charge for using the suitcase swindle on Basin rancher Chris Antonovich. Local officers had pursued a misdescribed suspect in a black Cadillac.
Veterans of the Ted Harper post in the Big Hole basin aid Jim Johnson, a noted rodeo promoter, in preparations for a two day Jackson rodeo on Sunday and Labor Day September 3 and 4 under the Legionnaires. The event includes a Days of 49 program and promises top bucking horses and riders, aiming to be a premier Beaverhead county wild west show.
Joe Smith composer will perform free street entertainment on the depot lawn Friday night. Sam Clutton, Normal College student, wrote the lyrics. The program includes Roses waltz and I Thought the Darned Stuff Wouldn’t Polish, presented during Claudia Faust’s dancing act. The two young men have written many popular songs this summer.
