Perilous Visit to Sitting Bull Camp by Norris and Diehl
In 1881 Col. G. R. B. Norris and Chicago reporter Charles S. Diehl, guided by Major Ilges, rode toward Sitting Bull to deliver a ration offer to the Yanktonais and his camp. They faced hostile braves, removed uniforms, and survived a tense halt before Sitting Bull granted a cautious hearing. The subsequent campaign against the Yanktonais led to surrender, freezing hardships, and mass prisoner transport.

Pottery Finds Reveal High Culture Of Hagen Site
More than two tons of chipped pottery and utensils from the Hagen site near Glendive were collected and donated to Montana State University. Excavated with WPA funds, the clay objects show a cultivated people in large permanent houses who farmed and refined pottery. The site, dated around 1600 A D, likely linked to Mandan Hidatsa Arikara ancestors, with connections to Crow and Sioux, predating the horse era. The Hagen Site monograph by William Mulloy, edited by Dr Turney-High, documents the findings for Montana University Publications.
