Europe Grain Outlook and Truck Shortages Hit War Regions
The Agricultural Extension Service notes Europe faces its poorest grain outlook during wartime with drought and reduced seedings. UK production remains above prewar but below last year while the Soviet Union regains seedings near prewar levels. Relief logistics stress trucks as Greece’s coastal fleet and rail network were decimated, leaving only limited inland transport for food.

Butter Supply to Improve as Production Rises
The average housewife can expect more butter on grocer shelves in coming months. Production has risen and the government set aside has been cut by 20 percent in August. Butterfat prices and milk output drive the boost, while retail outlets stop shortages from earlier in the year and per capita consumption remains near a wartime low.
