Jack Sturm arrived in Dillon for furlough with his parents in Wisdom after a year overseas.

Twin Bridges Rodeo Set for July 28 29
Beaverhead county residents plan to attend the second annual Twin Bridges rodeo on July 28 and 29. Frank Fox and Mel Icenoggle head the event with events such as bronc riding bareback bulldogging calf roping and dragon riding. Al Decker’s bucking horses will also appear testing local riders. New chutes have been installed and prizes total 720 plus entrance fees, advertised as Montana’s fastest and wildest little show.

New Officers Selected by VFW Post at City Hall Meeting
Lloyd Whipple post No. 4163 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars elected officers at its first regular meeting since establishment. Dan E. Henneberry was named quartermaster and adjutant, Maurice Burwell service officer, Earl Opp guard, and Clair Kirby color guard. Dillon junior nine wins second game in city park
Dillon's American Legion junior nine beat the Butte Highlanders 9 to 7 in a tense Sunday contest at the city park. The Highlanders led 2-0 early, Dillon tied in the first, and a five inning surge gave Dillon the lead. Mgr Floyd Vandegrift pitched part of the game for Dillon and struck out the final three in the eighth. Bob Wolf led Dillon at bat while Dutton had three hits for Butte. Celebration Planned Here August 9 for Lewis and Clark Anniversary
Allen will celebrate the 140th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark expedition on August 9. The Montana council of the American Pioneer Trails association selected the date after Beaverhead chapter plans were finalized at city hall Monday night. Local residents endured sweltering heat with 90 degree temperatures yesterday and today. The Normal College weather station logged a high of 91 yesterday and 94 by noon today, nearing Dillon's 100 degree record.

Small forest fires reported in Wisdom and Wise River districts
Two small fires were reported by cooperators in the Wisdom and Wise River districts Monday. Both were controlled before major damage. Wisdom fire west of the Percy Willey ranch was reported by A. J. Schulz and the Wise River fire near the Buckley Pruett ranch was reported by Mr. Pruett. Dr. and Mrs. W. J. Romers and sons Dean and Robert and Janet Henneberry are visiting Elkhorn Springs this week.

Death Claims Ranchman of Two Counties
Nels Peter Salmonsen 69 retired rancher from Beaverhead and Madison counties died Friday in a Butte hospital after eight days ill. Born in Aro Denmark August 30 1875 he came to the United States at 17 and worked on J. E. Morse ranches before running the Bishop ranch near Dillon then Ruby valley Madison county for 30 years. He retired 12 years ago moving to Dillon. Survived by three sons Elmer Butte Arthur and Nels Sheridan five daughters and many relatives including 32 grandchildren plus several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Beaverhead county responders exceeded the Seventh War Loan goal of 160000 by buying 183400 in E bonds equal to 114.6 percent and 33.06 per capita. Foutenay Patton, 31, jailed on burglary charges after Union Pacific roadmaster's office south of the depot was broken into Friday night. Three suspects forced entry, stealing two typewriters, blank time checks, signed checks, blank forms, tools, and clothing.
