Aged Dillon Matron Mary C Nelson Dies at Ranch Home
Mary C. Nelson 82 longtime Beaverhead County resident died Saturday at her ranch north of Dillon after a two year illness. Born March 5 1863 in Forsted Denmark she came to the United States with parents at 16 first settling in Kansas. She married P G Nelson July 27 1892 in Crookston Minnesota. The couple later moved to Idaho Falls then Dillon where they ran a bakery and restaurant until 1901 before taking land on the ranch north of Dillon where she lived until her death.

Lightning Strikes Near Doctor's Home During Severe Storm
A severe electrical storm swept Dillon last night interrupting power in parts of the city. A lightning bolt struck a tree in front of Dr Sheldon E Davis residence about 30 feet from him as he opened the door. The storm brought .85 inch of rain, measured at the Normal College weather bureau.

Beaverhead Republican Women name new president
Mrs. W. H. Stephan was elected president of the Beaverhead Republican Women's club succeeding Mrs. S. E. Whitworth. Other officers named were Mrs. Harry Martin vice president Mrs. D. A. Galt secretary and Mrs. Paul Stahl treasurer. The club will meet next month with the new officers in place. Haying, Beaverhead county's big yearly task, was delayed by general rains, but moisture revived parched ranges and aided the second hay crop. Labor remains scarce but not critical as harvest proceeds in the Big Hole Basin and the valley aims to retain the title of the valley of 10,000 haystacks.

Dillon Rodeo Promises Biggest Show Yet in County History
Interest in the Dillon Rodeo is rising with hopes this year will be the largest ever staged in the area. Manager Claude Lay notes 120 events in 120 minutes may need boosting as entrants grow. Al Deckers bucking horses and rough stock from Twin Bridges promise top action Sunday and Labor Day, Sept 2 and 3, with $850 in prizes luring racing horses from nearby states. Sunday features include a 100 prize half mile free for all and a 200 prize three quarter mile open race, plus a 100 prize one quarter mile cowboy race with added entrance fees.

Subsidy On Fat Sheep Announced
The subsidy to be paid to the grower and feeder of fat sheep and lambs sold for immediate slaughter was announced Friday July 27 by Secretary of Agriculture Clinton P. Anderson. Subsidy payments become effective on or after August 5, 1945 and run through June 30, 1946. The Reconstruction Finance Corporation also announced a subsidy of 95 cents per cwt that has been paid to authorized processors.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Brundage chapel with Assembly of God in charge. burial at Mountain View. He was born June 22 1867 in Oklahoma and lived in Kansas Dakota Wyoming before moving to Dillon in 1915. Beaverhead county plans a Thursday night program on the Union Pacific depot lawn to mark the 140th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark expedition through Dillon. The event includes re dedication of the depot lawn marker placed in 1927 with a bronze plaque donated by Anaconda Copper Mining Company.

Hay Field Casualties Rise In Beaverhead County
Beaverhead county saw a string of hay field accidents with several workers injured. John Donnegan, 75, sustained broken ribs and a fractured ankle after a runaway team backed his rake over him at the John Halligan ranch. Hollywood Bill McLaughlin, 60, fractured pelvis from a horse kick at the Tom Clemon ranch near Jackson and is in St. James hospital Butte. C Doose, 60, possibly fractured skull after a fall from an 18 foot hay stack at the Al Jolley ranch Wise River and is treated at St. James hospital Butte. Burglary Suspect Released After County Attorney Declines Case
Flourenay Patton, held at Beaverhead county jail since his arrest near Butte July 20 for involvement in the Union Pacific road master's office burglary, was released Monday on the recommendation of County Attorney Lew D. Brundage. He pleaded guilty to possession of stolen articles but claimed noninvolvement in the robbery. Police say there was insufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
