William Owsley Founder of Butte and the Faith That Built It
William Owsley died in Twin Bridges, the last of Butte's founders, leaving a legacy from a boy with flour and bacon to a mayor and the builder of the Owsley block. He arrived as a youth, invested in town lots, endured a harsh early era, and kept faith during Butte’s rough beginnings as prospectors pursued silver and a smelter failed.
