H C Wyatt Dies After Long Illness In Portland

Henry C. Wyatt a Dillon veteran died Friday night in the Portland Veterans hospital after a long illness. He was admitted in September 1936 and remained there. The body will arrive in Dillon and a 9:30 pm funeral will be held at the Lutheran church with Rev A W Nelson officiating. Beaverhead Post of the American Legion will give military honors before interment in Mountain View cemetery. Wyatt, born 43 years ago in Lancaster Tennessee, left uncertain further details.

Musical Night At School As Candidates File For Office

The intermediate and junior high students present an annual evening musical Friday at 8 pm directed by Mrs Grace Redburn with Miss Bernice Erickson Miss Florence Hellman and Miss Billie Baxter as accompanists. Sheriff Temple and Treasurer Mathews filed for renomination Saturday with Temple on the Republican ticket and Mathews on the Democratic ticket. Registration for the July primary began as Clerk Albert S Baker announced details.

Rural power talks planned for Beaverhead valley meetings

County agent Bernard Williams announces two meetings on proposed rural electrification. Ranchers will gather at city hall auditorium 8 o’clock tomorrow night, Melrose and Reichle residents meet Friday night at Melrose. Committees will be elected to study the project. Williams and others visited Silver Star to confer with Jefferson valley electrification directors.

The Dillon Business and Professional Women’s Club meets at city hall with president Mrs Elizabeth Winn presiding. Mayme Allen will report on youth survey, Glenna Vance to lead a round table on legal matters, while Berniece Metlen and Elveretta Langdorf head the legislative committee. An executive meeting precedes the session. Twenty six pupils earn junior high honor roll with Mary Ann Luebben top scorer.

Hazelbaker speaks at Dillon Rotary dinner on Sun Valley trip

Hazelbaker told the Dillon Rotary Club Monday night about his Sun Valley trip and attendance at a Department of Commerce business advisory council meeting. Conference was informal with varied views and no quoted conclusions. Combes discussed the Lyceum Course at the High School and future numbers. Directors elected for the coming year include Guy Combes Joe Wedum Dr W J Romersa Ralph McFadden and Sam Wilkinson with president to be chosen from among them. Lambert Eliel chaired the meeting.

Dillon Starts First Civic Cleanup Drive For Years

Civic Improvement Committee of the Dillon Chamber of Commerce launches a city wide cleanup week starting next Monday in Dillon with plans to mobilize the entire community for a cleaner Dillon. Mayor Charles Hauswirth invites Butte to join and KGIR will carry ads for all participating towns. Health projects by Beaverhead schools to be shown in Dillon stores

Health projects from 20 Beaverhead county schools will be displayed in Dillon store windows next weekend in observance of Child Health day. County Nurse Margaret Holloran and County Superintendent Nell Doyle supervised the efforts. A bathroom scale will be awarded to the winner by the Beaverhead Red Cross Chapter. Judges are Miss Mary Baker Miss Jean Ballard and Mrs W J Bierum.

Grace Methodist approves Meecke reappointment as pastor

The quarterly conference and the local pastoral relations committee unanimously request the reapptointment of Rev. Dr. J. A. Meecke as pastor. He has served the Dillon church for seven years.

Beaverhead county high school faculty were re-elected by the board for the ensuing year. Instructors chosen include Miss Mary Castles, Miss Violet M. Eastman, Miss Fay Kirkpatrick, Miss Ethel Anderson, Miss Jean Ballard, Miss Helen Dahlberg, Miss Evelyn Rimel, Miss Ruby Bogness, Miss Kathleen Henkel, Carl A. Ross, L. A. Gregory, D. L. Johnson, W. J. Bierrum, and Harold Babcock, with Conrad O. Orr to continue as principal.

Daly Spur Dam Project Gains Butte Civic Backing

Butte Chamber of Commerce directors approve Daly Spur dam in Ryan's canyon near Daly Spur to irrigate about 100000 acres and store 50000 more. The 150 foot dam would hold 192800 acre feet of water, require rerouting Oregon Short Line and Highway 91, with a state survey requested by Dillon officials.

Dillon prepares for the Zone Track Meet at the fair grounds next Saturday afternoon with events starting at 1 pm. Dillon Gun Club Leads State Tourney Amid Winds

The Dillon Gun club retained its top position in Montana’s telegraphic tourney as winds hindered many clubs. Ted Renfro tied for top in the 100 third singles by scoring 95 of 100, led doubles with 43 of 25 pairs, while Roy Forrester and Cliff Stump tied for second in the handicap with 44. The club’s 72 may weaken its Idaho telegraphic shoot standing, despite holding an edge in Montana.

Early County Officer William Staudaher Dies in Boise

William Staudaher, former Beaverhead County clerk and recorder, died Saturday at his Boise home at age 60. He served as clerk and recorder early in the century and later was in business here before living in Idaho for many years. He leaves three sisters, two brothers, and had many friends among local oldtimers.
