Shakespeare Club Holds Annual Luncheon With New Officers

Seventy five members and guests gathered at St James guild hall for the Dillon Shakespeare club luncheon as Mrs Lewis D Smith presided. New officers named include Mrs W W Hawkins president and Miss Myrtle Savidge among assistants. A program featured vocal solos, piano, and a one act play The Florist Shop directed by Savidge. A gift scholarship to Normal college for three quarters and a play gift were announced.

First Boys State Set Here in August

Montana's first Boys State will convene at State Normal college in Dillon for ten days August 10 to 19. About 300 high school juniors from across the state will elect a replica government from governor to departments, under sponsorship of the American Legion and Montana groups. Beaverhead county will provide three boys with local committee oversight and a Lima candidate possible if chosen. Sponsorship costs include 30 dollars per boy plus transport, and 300 total attendees are limited by college capacity. The event coincides with the college's 50th anniversary and includes tours to Bannack and Virginia City.

Cub Scouts Advance at Friday Meet

Awards and advancements in rank were given to all Cub Scouts of the Dillen dens at a Cub pack meeting in the Bagley school auditorium Friday night. Barkeley Compton, Scout executive of Anaconda, attended with H. H. Hendren, Dillon Cubmaster, in charge, assisted by Chester White and Paul Holloran as assistant Cubmasters. Each Den presented a skit, with the first award to Den Five, Mrs. Kenneth Kenson, den mother. Gold arrows were earned by Donald Murray, John McCollum, Lewis Richardson, and Clayton Schulz for achievements beyond requirements. New Bobcats admitted included Loren Jones, Billy Hartwig, Carl Hartwig, John Giles and Ronny Buckingham. Advanced to Wolf rank were Benny Henneberry, Lee Orr, Donald Murray, Harold Hignight, Jack Kenison, Robert Romers, Clayton Schulz, Billy Stauden.

Cub Scout Olympics at Dillmont Saturday

A community event at Dillmont hosts the Cub Scout Olympics this Saturday. Proceeds from the 26th Buddy Poppy sale, May 16 and 17 by Veterans of Foreign Wars post 4163, aid disabled veterans and their dependents, while VFW service officers assist claims with the Veterans Administration.

Dillon Cub Scout Olympics will be held at Dillmont park Saturday afternoon from 4 to 7 with dens competing in events under H. H. Hendren. A Bagley school truck will shuttle 3 45 P M to 7 15 P M. Prizes will be awarded in scavenger hunt discus throw baseball throw water event and relay.

Youth for Christ rally speaker to address Dillon meeting

Herb Tyler organizer and director of Youth for Christ in Hutchinson Kansas will speak at Dillon high school auditorium Saturday at 7 45 p m. He is a full time representative for the movement in the Pacific Northwest and will help organize the group with the International Youth for Christ. Tyler will also speak at a Sunday rally at the Methodist church at 7 30 p m with young people from thirteen area churches in Anaconda Butte Deer Lodge and Dillon attending.

Dillon Music Week Concerts Highlight Public Programs

In observance of National Music Week May 4 to 10, Dillon public school musicians present several programs open to the public. Grade school band and soloists perform May 5 at 8 15 p.m. in Bagley school auditorium under director L A Gregory with Miss Maxine Beck as assistant. A parade through the business section is set for May 6 at 3 30 p.m. featuring the grade school band orchestra and the new third grade Tontette band of 60 players sponsored by Mrs Moe Miss Forrester and Mrs Orr with about 100 young musicians in the parade. Vocal groups perform May 9 at 2 30 p.m. in Bagley auditorium under Mrs O Kay Moe with no admission charged.

Gladiolus Bulb Sale By Beaverhead High Music Dept

Beaverhead County High School music students will sell gladiolus bulbs Saturday at a booth in front of J C Penney. Brinton Jackson says Montana Gladiolus Society supplies the bulbs and Mr Jackson is vice president. Proceeds support the district music meet in Helena on May 10 with about 500 musicians expected.

Florence Axe Dead After Lingering Illness at Dillon

Mrs. Florence Axe 60 wife of Clarence Axe longtime Dillon resident died Friday at Barrett hospital after a lingering illness. Missoula Man Drowns When Car Plunges Into Big Hole River

Thomas L. White, 54, a Missoula road construction mechanic, died when his sedan left the Dewey divide and sank in the Big Hole River. Otto Keil spotted the submerged car early Monday and alerted authorities. White was found behind the steering wheel with minor facial injuries. The coroner noted the crash occurred on a straight stretch with the dashboard clock stopped at 12:05 and a watch at 12:20.

The Frances Blaisdell Trio of New York will present the final 1946-47 season program at the Montana State Normal college auditorium Friday at 8:15 p m. Dillon Gun Club Nearly Hits 75 in State Postal Shoot

The Dillon Gun Club fell one target short of a perfect 75 in the Montana Standard state postal shoot Sunday. Ted Renfro and Max Merrill posted 24s with Renfro shooting here and Merrill at Lima. Leaders included Barney Larson of Anaconda with 49x60 in the 50-yard singles, and a field of 15 clubs including Livingston and Hamilton.

Directors of Beaverhead Civic Group Elected to Board

Four Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce directors were elected by the civic group after balloting this week. The winners are Dillon businessmen Philip J. Lovell and Joe G. White and Beaverhead ranchers W. B. Gleed and Philip Collom, joining eight candidates from a prior primary. The four hold-over directors are Lambert Eliel, Harry Andersen, W. W. Wetzel and Albert Erickson. The new board will meet in May to select officers.
