Beaverhead plans for Boys State in Dillon this August

Beaverhead county will send three youths to the American Legion Boys State in Dillon in August with a 300-boy cap for all counties. Applications must be filed by May 1 at Boys State HQ in Helena. Two Montana delegates will later go to the national Boys Forum in Washington, D C.

Beaverhead Students Score Top Ratings at State Solo Festival

Six Beaverhead county high school students earned Division I ratings at the sixth annual state solo and small ensemble music festival on the University of Montana campus. Eugene Bennett won for a bass horn solo. a brass quintet of Hewitt Martinell Sam Davis James Martinell and Nora Jean French also achieved Division I. Patricia McFadden won for a vocal solo.

Dillon Elks Install Officers for New Lodge Year

Dillon lodge No. 1554 Elks installed officers for the new year at the I.O.O.F. hall. Harry Tash became exalted ruler, with Phillip Lovell and George Heikkila as leading officers. The ceremony featured a Montana Elks association president Leo Musburger and grand officers from Butte. A drum and bugle corps exhibition preceded the event, followed by a theatre party for Elks ladies and a dancing party with refreshments.

Pioneer business man reaches 80th milestone

Lenwood A. Jeane of Reno Oklahoma was sentenced to 90 days in county jail after pleading guilty to fraudulently cashing bad checks. He resisted arrest by Officer Boyd O Neal before surrendering near the Dillon Creamery. Separately Albert Stamm the Dillon jeweler celebrated his 80th birthday arriving from Butte to visit family and longtime friends. Stamm helped found one of Dillon s oldest firms and recalled yearly chop suey dinners with three contemporaries including former Hawaii governor Joseph Poindexter.

Beaverhead Musicians Win Division I State Meet Honors

Beaverhead students earned top marks at the state meet with Division I ratings for Hewitt Martinell and Sam Davis in trumpet solo and duet, Peggy Lou Sutherland and Shirley Camp receiving high marks for vocal piano and saxophone parts. Lambert Eliel Kay Whitworth earned Division III for piano solos. many others were commended. Accompanying staff and students prepared for a regional meet in Washington. Bruce Grimes performed with the University symphonic band in Missoula.

Social Security Official To Visit Dil lon Next Tuesday

C Ben Reavis manager of the Butte field office Social Security Administration will be at the employment service office in Dillon from 1 to 3 pm on Tuesday to help area residents file benefit claims obtain new and duplicate social security cards and answer questions about the old age and survivors insurance program. The notice explains retirement and survivors benefits and that applications must be filed with a Social Security Administration office for all program benefits.

Presbytery of Butte to Meet in Dillon

The Presbytery of Butte annual meeting will be held in Dillon at the Presbyterian church on April 22 and 23. Sessions are scheduled Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning and afternoon with a joint meeting, plus a Tuesday evening service. Speakers include Rev. Beaverhead trapshooters led by John Jackson and L. Boyer posted high scores as Dillon Gun Club defends the state title in the Montana Standard postal shoot. Jackson and colleagues broke 25 on their first string, while Boss Boyer and teammates tallied multiple 24s. Club officers were reelected and wind hampered shooters as Dillon faced Sheridan Missoula and Billings.

The Dillon assembly of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls marked its 25th anniversary with a Rainbow breakfast at the Masonic hall attended by assembly members board members and Dr J Thompson Baker. Three Hurt In Highway Auto Crash Near Melrose

Mrs. Jessie Morse of Sheridan is hospitalized at Barrett with multiple lacerations after a car driven by Max Fulford of Sheridan veered off the highway just south of Melrose and overturned at least twice. Fulford and Mrs. John C. Brown escaped with minor injuries and were treated and released. Deputy Sheriff Burl Stephens and Dr. Routledge aided the victims.

Normal Nine to Open 1947 Season in Montana

Montana Normal’s first baseman’s team since before the war will play Anaconda at Vigilante field Saturday at 2 pm with a return game the following week. Coach Bill Straugh’s Bulldogs face Anaconda Boosters in Dillon on April 27 and discuss home-and-home double headers with School of Mines. Beaverhead chapter sent six youths to the Montana state FFA convention and tournament in Bozeman. The judging team of Bruce Jardine John Hren and Roger Smith won bronze in livestock grain poultry shop work and ag tests. Coy Brown and Helge Madsen attended the convention with 42 Montana chapters and one Canadian chapter present.

Horticulturist to Visit Dillon This Week

Montana State College extension horticulturist Ed Isaac will be in Dillon Thursday and Friday to discuss landscaping and home beautification. Dorothy Embleton says a city hall meeting Thursday at 2 pm will cover plant varieties, soils, and landscaping. Individuals with special problems may contact Miss Embleton for help and Mr Isaac will offer home visits.

Organization of Farm Bureau Unit Scheduled Grant

Ranchers and other residents of the Armstead and Grant districts will meet at the Grant schoolhouse Friday night at 8 o'clock to organize a Farm Bureau unit. H L Laurence of Bozeman state secretary and treasurer will explain the organization and J H Mikkelson Beaverhead county extension agent will attend. A large attendance is urged for ranchers and farmers of Armstead and Grant.
