Beaverhead Montana board of county commissioners met April 5 6 7 1937 in regular session with Martin C. Jackson W B Hartwig and Edgar B Rife and Acting Clerk Emery Smith present. Minutes from prior and March 29 extra session approved. Bonds and depository securities approved. Clerk ordered to advertise bids for courthouse painting and motor grader purchase.

Rotary Board Named At Weekly Meet
The Dillon Rotary club elected its board of directors Monday night to later choose the president and secretary. Directors named were Ralph McFadden Conrad O Orr Harold Snow Sam Wilkinson and W B Willey. New members Emery M Gibson registrar of the Montana State Normal college and Clyde Stieb manager of the J C Penney company store were introduced by Charles Henry and briefed on Rotary International aims.

Heavy Fine Assessed to Butte Man
A Butte man, Jack O'Brien, pleaded guilty to reckless driving in Judge George Opp's court and received a $100 fine. He was taken into custody after a car he drove plunged from a highway south of Dell. none of the five occupants were injured and they continued to Butte. Authorities in Beaverhead County have stepped up patrols for highway safety. George Mendeleov also pleaded guilty to operating a car without proper credentials in Judge Louis Stahl's court last Thursday.

Timber Taken for Ranching Use Across Northern Rockies
In nine months from July 1, 1936 to April 1, 1937, National forest sales in the Northern Rocky Mountain region yielded 75.25 million board feet of commercial timber and 24.5 million for farm and ranch use. West of the divide produced 68% of commercial cuts, led by 31.0 million from Coeur d Alene and 18.0 million from Kootenai. East of the divide supplied 7.0 million. Beaverhead logged 969,000 for farm use, the largest town of this category. Continued on page 4.

Court Reverses District Ruling in Beaverhead Stock Case
The Montana Supreme Court in a unanimous decision reverses Beaverhead County District Court in the FDIC v. Peterson suit over a 7200 stockholder liability in First National Bank of Lima. The jury had ruled for Peterson after he sold 72 shares in January 1934 after learning of insolvency to avoid liabilities.

Dorothy Ann Davis of Dillon was chosen to represent Rocky Mountain Region 11 at the Girl Scout Silver Jubilee in August at Camp Andree Briarcliff Manor New York. The appointment was announced by Mrs Lou Henry Hoover president of the Girl Scouts of America.

Beaverhead rancher found dead in isolated Sweetwater cabin
Michael Boka, a well known Beaverhead rancher, was found dead in his Sweetwater area cabin east of Dillon. Sheriff Temple said he appears to have died of a heart attack, likely a week earlier, with inquest ordered. He leaves a wife and three children. Interment is at Mountain View with Legion honors.

Land Case Reopened by Montana Supreme Court
The Montana Supreme Court reversed a Beaverhead county district court ruling in the civil suit of Henry Fitzpatrick against the Security State bank, vacating a dismissal after a jury was selected eight years after a land transaction. The decision allows testimony that had been barred, reopening the case involving former bank directors.

Verdict for plaintiff in Powell case against Cot tom
A jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff Ida B. Powell by guardian W H Powell in a car accident suit against Philip B Cottom, awarding 100 dollars after a trial that began Friday and ended Monday night. A separate damage suit by Marie Powell against Cottom was heard this morning and the jury returned its verdict this afternoon.

K. K. Pledge Party At Torrey Lodge Draws Guests
Over sixty K. K. members and guests traveled to Birch Creek Canyon on April 17 for a pledge party at Torrey Lodge. They arrived after a 7:00 p.m. departure from the gym, enjoyed games and dancing, and shared a buffet supper. Plans for a weiner roast were dropped due to damp ground. Those not dancing helped with popcorn and lunch prep. This was the lodge’s first informal party of this kind, with hopes for more.

Eight Beaverhead DeMolay members depart for Billings for the annual conclave opening tomorrow afternoon. Dillon delegates include Tom Newnes Warren Stone Jr Bruce Gilbert Arthur Christensen George Stewart Philip Liggett Jack Orr and Warren Temple with John T. Orr accompanying. Frank S. Land founder of the order and Kansas City secretary general will attend. About 800 DeMolays at the conclave lasting through Saturday with daily sessions and social events including two banquets and the grand conclave ball.

Beaverhead High Board Seeks Federal Aid for New Building
Beaverhead county high school trustees plan a petition for PWA funds to construct a new building. If approved, voters will decide on a bond issue to match the federal grant. Taxpayers would save 45 percent on construction and pay about 2 to 3 dollars more in taxes annually. The current plant is insufficient for needs.

Forrester and Renfro broke 99 of 100 birds in the Dillon Gun club’s first registered shoot of the season. Otto Schulz of Sheridan was runner up with 98. Dillon posted a perfect 75 in the Montana Standard telegraphic shoot defeating Butte which scored 72. Scores of 25 credited to Forrester Renfro and Dr. were noted.

Beaverhead County Man Dies After Ranch Horse Accident
L W English, 61, a former Beaverhead county resident, died at Murray hospital Butte Monday from injuries when a horse fell on him at Gilbert Livestock Co ranch near Alder. He was born in Indiana August 19 1876 and moved to Beaverhead in 1908. Survived by four sons and other relatives. services held at Brundage Funeral Home with burial in Mountain View cemetery.
