John H. Denny II, a veteran of the Civil War and long associated with the A. R. Beck post, is reported near death with family and community preparing for his passing. The notice notes his military service and imminent demise within days.
John Henry Denny, born July 18 1845 in Logan County Kentucky, died suddenly at his Dillon home. His passing marked the second Beaverhead county G A R death in a week. Beaverhead post of the American Legion led funeral rites Monday at Brunage chapel with Rev C H Parlour officiating and Dillon Legionnaires firing a salute over Mountain View cemetery. Miss Marjorie Williams daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Williams of Dillon recently performed at the Dana Institute of Music in Warren Ohio where she studied for three years She played Concerto Op 40 by Chaminade with the institute wind band Press notices praise her as an artist of real ability Miss Williams and Miss Orpha Baker niece of Mr and Mrs George Baker will graduate this year after completing the four year course in three years Miss Baker is a violist in the school orchestra Next fall Dillon music students plan to enroll and both girls will spend summer at home in Dillon
The district contest at Bearrhead High named winners advancing to the state competition in Bozeman on April 29 and 30. Top students in typing, chemistry, civics, physics, algebra, geometry, English, Latin, general science, world history, American history, bookskeeping, and more were listed, including Virginia Randolph, James Price, Florence Nedrow, Clara Sorenson, Eleanor Forsgren, and Rob Finch.
The Dillon Montana Chevrolet dealer uses air transportation to stay in contact with customers and arrange future delivery of Chevrolets despite winter snow drifts and ice. The strategy reflects an industry spirit aimed at meeting seasonal service challenges.

Support urged as Dillon Rotary club honors Hazelbaker of Dillon at a banquet at the Andrus hotel. Attendance neared 100 percent, with officers pledging support to the governor elect and discussing Dillon Rotary’s district governor responsibilities, and cards bearing the inscription of the honor.
The Beaverhead post American Legion boxing committee announced a May 7 event at Dillon City Hall. The 11 round main event features Howard Ball of Pocatello against the winner of the Michelich Dempsey bout in Butte next Tuesday. The program totals 26 rounds of boxing.
Edith M Miller once living in Dillon and claiming Astor lineage was jailed 80 days in Denver for vagrancy after a party at a residence. She must also pay a $200 fine. Denver papers dubbed her Misa Astor and described her as a gold digger type.
The body of James Butler a laborer was found in his room in Williamstown Rouse Monday evening. Death appeared sudden with a bottle and nearly empty bottle nearby. Butler, about 45, came to the area fifteen years ago and worked on local ranches. A Hartford brother has been located and funeral plans await word.
An Oregon Short Line train passed through Dillon last Friday morning carrying 450 Mexican laborers to the Billings beet fields for the coming season. The trainload included 200 families, all Mexicans with two Filipinos, recruited in California by beet interests near Billings.
Beaverhead county high school alumni group schedules an important meeting at the Andrus hotel parlor tomorrow night at 8 o clock. All members are urged to attend as key topics will be discussed.
Mr Hoover heads Better Homes in America which sponsors a nationwide educational campaign. Local sponsors include chambers of commerce, PTA, women's clubs, scouts, and others. A volunteer committee, chosen by the local chairman, plans the program with guidance from national headquarters.
Dillon's upcoming track season showcases Beaverhead county's best athletes across many schools. The county's rural and normal colleges prepare for a May 6 7 rural schools meet at Dillon field while a May 26 27 dual track cross country event with Montana Normal College and School of Mines unfolds in Dillon.
Hundreds of Dillon residents viewed a three day school run exhibit featuring a Madonna of the Chair dramatization by high school students under Mrs Willis. L A Gregory directed the high school orchestra and Prof Clifford H Reidel spoke on judging art.
Nurse Hether Nelagh submitted a report covering September 1926 to April 1927. Of 697 children inspected in Beaverhead county schools, 64 percent had some physical defect and 36 percent were serious enough to warrant parent notification. The data include defects in vision teeth throat nose enlarged thyroid underweight and overage, with 162 re visits to classrooms and 32 first visits.
Geologist F. E. Ward addressed Dillon residents at the Andrus hotel Saturday night, declaring the Beaverhead anticline a promising oil field and expressing confidence that the shale will yield oil in paying quantities in this region.
Beaverhead's Elkhorns Hot Springs, famed Montana resort, will operate as a dude ranch under a new policy. Jack Brown, builder and owner of the Elkhorns Springs hotel, will manage. The plan follows meetings with prominent Billon business figures and local property owners.
Missoula Montana April 15. The annual Montana high school newspaper contest linked to the state university track meet May 12 13 and 14 attracts wide interest with 70 publications entered. Two silver cups financed by the Montana Press association go to best papers in class A over 500 enrollment and class B under 500. Entries were due April 2 but a grace period allows six copies to be mailed to Professor R L Houseman. Judges will be outside the state and the program features addresses by Professor Houseman and a leading Montana newspaper figure.
Over a thousand Dillon visitors attended the formal opening of City Baking Company's new plant last Saturday. Manager Louis Schmittroth and assistants served coffee doughnuts and sandwiches as tours explained the Santost bread making process. The plant occupies the former Cash Meat Market building and showcases modern baking equipment.
