A light earthquake was felt in Dillon at about 1 30 this morning lasting a few seconds. The quake stirred Butte and surrounding areas causing fright and prompting questions about an explosion or mine blast. The report notes the 1906 San Francisco quake occurred four years earlier.
The Metlen hotel will switch from the American to the European plan on May 1 under Manager J W Dobbins who recently replaced A Main. Dobbins, a prominent Northwest hotel man, will elevate The Meden to higher standards as improvements continue and guests receive enhanced service in this growing city.
The Scenic theatre presents a varied program headlined by Arthur Prince a magician noted for baffling audiences with new ideas. Spectators are treated to agile stagecraft and bewildering tricks as Prince performs to entertain all ages at the show house.
The Butte Anglers Club deserves members and needs about $800 to plant fry in nearby streams. The group plans two million fry in the coming months to ensure sustained fishing for years, thanks to members who fund and oversee stocking efforts.
The Gilmore and Pittsburg Railroad Co began surveying two years ago. Under President W A McCutcheon and Chief Engineer T H H Bacon, grading contracted last year, a tunnel started April 1 1910, track laying began October at Armatea, and Roberta Brothers of Chicago laid steel. Now the line reaches Baker ten miles from Salmon City with trains due to enter soon.
Arthur J. Breda traveled to Butte to wed Miss Marie Engels of Chicago at 833 South Main on Thursday evening. Rev. F E K Dodds of Dillon's Methodist Episcopal church performed the ceremony. Breda recently moved from Chicago to work as bookkeeper at the State Bank of Dillon and the couple will reside in the Burfiend block.
Three Dillon residents Nellie Moore Isadore Guidici and Mrs Della Reynolds died within days of each other. Moore died after heart failure during an operation for goitre at Murray hospital Butte at age 20 with a large school attendance and church service. Guidici a 50 year old rancher died of lung cancer after treatment in Rochester and Butte leaving a wife and eight children. Reynolds widow of R A Reynolds died in Santa Monica after a stroke and prolonged illness. Funeral services for all were held in Dillon with community notices and interment at Mountain View and Poindexter cemeteries.
Virginia City school board members M Duncan James Powell Amos Hil and W A Buttermore visited Dillon Wednesday to inspect the public school building They were accompanied by contractor James Emalie and principal DD Clinger They plan an addition and a modern heating and ventilating plant and wanted to see plants in operation before contracting The trip was in a Mitchell automobile from Johnson Livery and returned by nine p m It was Huttermire s first long auto ride and was described as profitable and pleasant by the Madisonian.
D J Smith died suddenly in Sheridan on April 10 from lung hemorrhage. A prominent Western figure and former Northwestern league umpire, he planned an Arizona move after selling his business. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church with Eagles Lodge members in attendance. burial planned in Butte for the widow's husband.
The Star theatre hosts a popular baby contest with Dillon babies entering under age three. Ten pictures have been submitted for slides made in Chicago and shown next Sunday. Votes via coupons determine winners with a $20 prize for first place and additional prizes for second and third. The event features strong moving pictures and a top orchestra led by Professor Mazanti.
The 1910 Prep basketball team hosted the junior squad for a cozy evening in the recreation room. Ferns and daffodils decorated, with gold and white programs and maltese cross table setup. Guests included Josephine Erwin and Marie Lamont among others. Prep players Dolores Commean and Lillian Casey led the hosts.
Judge J B Poindexter presides a district court session setting numerous cases for May term. Demurrer by George Staudaker over Mrs Mary Thomas action for 15000 damages for allegedly defamatory statements is argued. Acknowledges list of criminal and civil cases with dates and times.
Those knowing themselves to be indebted to Tash and Lenkersdorter are ordered to present themselves and settle at the Montana Market office. The notice requests prompt payment from the named parties.
