Judge Joseph C. Smith urges Beaverhead County voters to attend a mass meeting at the courthouse to form an organization aimed at repealing state primary election laws. The plan seeks county by county support to draft a bill for the fall election and place the decision before voters.
A number of Beaverhead county men travel to Butte for the state livestock meeting this week. Dillon participants include Dave Tash, Frank Gosman, J. E B Morse, Senator Frank Hazelbaker, J. B. Shaw, D. W. Erwin, 8. 8. Patterson, and county officials with spouses.
Peter Peterson a well known pioneer of Lima died last Sunday at his Lima home. The funeral was held yesterday. He resided in Lima for many years and leaves several children including Peter James and Lawrence Peterson. Lawrence is the new mayor of Lima. John Baker and other Dillon people attended the funeral.
The Dillon Rod and Gun Club will hold its regular monthly shoot Sunday afternoon at the fairgrounds. The event was postponed due to the severe snowstorm. Beav erhead County High School instructor Prof Lilinthal was called home to Spokane last week because his mother is ill.
Beaverhead County commissioners sealed a deal with Beaverhead Motors for three Wehr grader planers combined with Fordson tractors. Each district will receive one machine to maintain roads, shown in a Dillon street demonstration as a cost effective one person grading solution.
Sheriff’s office detains about six to eight local high school boys found with moonshine liquor many named as suppliers or drinkers. Paul Stahl, a city resident, is charged after affidavits are sworn. sheriff vows to continue crackdown on underage alcohol broadly.
Thursday evening April 27 a concert at the college features piano instructor Mrs. Tello with soprano Mrs. C W Scott. The varied program draws from classics and modern composers and reflects Mrs. Tello and Mrs. Scott’s training in Cleveland Chicago Paris. The free program begins at 815 pm. Judge Smith and F D Willis returned from Butte Monday after attending court.
Montana Democrats gathered in Helena to hear Cordell Hull speak on party direction and primary election law. The meeting featured votes endorsing Woodrow Wilson and expressions of loyalty to the Democratic cause as delegates returned home Sunday.
Senator E. O Selway announced the death of his brother Lloyd Selway at age 61 in Miles City after a period of illness. Born in Wisconsin, he lived in Beaverhead and Custer counties, managed livestock, ranching, and sheep ventures in Wyoming and Montana. He is survived by his wife Katherine Wise and five brothers, with Delos present at his passing. funeral and interment occurred in Miles City.
Sunday April 23 is set as Denominational Day with all pastors urged to preach on denominational principles. Morning theme The Meaning of Baptism evening theme A Regenerated Church Membership. Four minute speakers, good music, and a cordial worship welcome attendees.
Charles Wilson a well known rancher of Horse Prairie was brought to Dillon for medical treatment after weeks of illness. The Dillon Volunteer Fire department held a banquet at Odd Fellows hall last Thursday evening to honor him and to celebrate new recruits amid a time of injuries from last summer when a team of horses ran away. Wilson remains a patient at Andrus hotel.
Martin Barrett announced that the Barrett hospital will commence this year in Dillon. Bids for the building contract will be let on April 27. The project estimates near one hundred thousand dollars, with Fred Willson of Bozeman supervising. The foundation, completed last fall, is in splendid condition.
At a meeting of baseball fans last Wednesday the Legion club roomors adopted a plan to form a twilight city league. A baseball commission of Dr Walker B L Poindexter and Ben Stevenson will run affairs and choose team names and positions. A committee Leroy Beam Hiram Brundage and Harry Gimble will study conditions and seek business support. Each of four teams will be created with balanced rosters and uniforms donated by local businesses inscribed with the team name and donor. Games will be held in evenings on weekdays and holidays with Sundays off.
Dick Schwab Ed Whitney Wm Hardin Tom Toomey and A Crowell were arrested on liquor law violations by the sheriff's office. Schwab Whitney Hardin and Toomey face charges of sale while Crowell and Toomey are accused of possession. Schwab Whitney Hardin and Toomey plead not guilty and set for trial April 24. Crowell pleaded guilty and was fined 100 dollars.
The Senior Convocation Spring quarter program at Normal College features piano solos, plays Young Doctor Devine and A Trick of the Trade, a matinee idol segment, and a folk dance with named participants. One act includes Gettin Acquainted with a Vermont town setting and two possible endings if audience desires.
Mrs. Mary E. Link Callaway died suddenly of acute heart failure at the home of her son in Great Falls. Born in Paris Illinois, she 78, wife of Colonel James H. Callaway, long a Montana official. Funeral held in Virginia City. survived by two sons including Edmund J. Callaway of Dillon.
Judge Smith fines Phil Murphy one hundred sixty dollars for first offense prohibition violation. Murphy pays the fine after being accused of illicit liquor manufacture.
Max Rost, longtime commissary man at Cook Sleep Co, returns from Germany where he spent the winter. He says German industry runs day and night and dislikes that the people work too hard. Rost notes favorable exchange with the mark and an economical trip, and he recalls grass ten inches high and spring far advanced when he left Germany.
J. C. Ferguson was in town yesterday from Reichle attending to matters of business.
James O'Malley who runs a soft drink establishment in Lima was arrested Sunday for gambling law violations. He pleaded guilty in district court yesterday and paid a $100 fine.
Last Saturday the Butte Miner linked an attachment against Boston Montana Mining Company property in this county. Investigations showed new attachments passed county channels, then Sunday the Miner retracted noting no attachment had been filed. Beaverhead residents monitor Elkhorn property’s promising future and stock ownership remains high.
