Beaverhead county cattlemen expect about 7,500 head of steers and 4,050 head of fat cows to feed this winter and spring. With roughly 1 1 000 dollars per acre for beef and a spring delivery, ranchers project total receipts around 1 078 125 from beef steers and about 268 000 from cattle at current prices. Prices and demand remain strong as cattle move toward market.
Thirty six students are named on the Beaverhead County High School honor roll this week. Six leaders, all girls, scored 90 in five subjects including Cora Anderson Bee Forsyth Louise Taylor Barbara Tower Laura Jane Osborne and Ruby Wentworth. Other honorees include Ebba Anderson Donald Bayerd Helen Ida Best Helga Carlson Jane Herpon Margaret Jordan Virginia Randolph and more.
In Beaverhead County a Hereford cattle essay contest awarded a $15 prize, shared equally among three top students. Major Dansie placed second and Walter Carlson third, with essays closely grouped in merit and judged by the Smith Hughes department.
A. W. Stephenson of Dillon has been chosen to pilot the first Fokker airplane for the Na fon Parks Airways. The new air mail service will cover Great Falls to Salt Lake with start set for June 16. Montana, Idaho and Utah will be served. investors have oversubscribed stock by 26000 dollars. Frank, Salt Lake, leads the new company with plans to begin rapid operations.

Slade Mike Taylor's high class musical comedy company, a winter hit at the Broadway in Butte, will appear tomorrow night at the Hartwig theatre in Dillon. Bo Hartwig says the stellar attraction, led by Taylor as prize comedian, continues the theater's popular program. McMillan's dance orchestra also returns next Sunday with the ragtime picture program. The entertainers played Monday and scored a distinct hit.
Beaverhead county grade school pupils will assemble in Dillon on April 27 and 28 for the third annual Beaverhead county high school sponsored meet. Principal A T Peterson announced the dates after a faculty meeting Monday night. The Dillon public school will not participate. Events include track and field under Coach B Anderson with prizes from Dillon business Metal. A scholastic contests division will offer additional awards, with a probable loving cup for the overall winner.
Miss Fannie Cahill longtime Alder Gulch native and Dillon resident died at home in Dillon following a five week illness from heart trouble. She will be buried Friday at Mountain View cemetery after 10 30 a m mass at St Rose church officiated by Father Lechner. Survived by brother Henry Cahill and four sisters Mrs Elizabeth Stone Mrs Charles Metzler Mrs McDonald of Alder and Mrs J Carey of Sheridan.
A free clinic for preschool children was held last Friday afternoon at Barrett hospital under the direction of Mrs Bertha Lambertson, Beaverhead county health nurse. Several youngsters were examined as part of a program supported by the Parent Teachers association to identify and correct remedial defects before next fall’s school opening.
The Beaverhead county high school weekly The Beaver has been entered in the state high school newspaper contest to be held during the interscholastic meet in Missoula May 10 and 11. The paper competes in Class C with past top finishes including one first and one second in Class B. Associate editor Miss Jane Herndon will attend the high school editors meeting.
The Montana state Republican central committee plans to meet April 18 at the Placer hotel in Helena to map the state convention and select a national committeeman. Officers include Frank A Hagelbaker as state chairman and C Bartos as vice chairman.
Light election results show HM Brundage and J H Gilbert re elected to the Dillon public schools District No. 10 board with 39 and 37 votes respectively. Write in candidates Mrs T D Olmsted and Mrs A C Morrow gathered 12 and 11 votes, while Mrs M A Walker had 10. Elections also held in other county districts.
O'Brien was sentenced in county court after pleading to petty larceny charges. The case involved charges of theft and related offenses in a rural county setting.
