O B Hitchcock assistant state entomologist at Montana State College says surveys of last fall indicate a larger grasshopper population and wider areas of infestation for spring. He cites eastern Glacier and Pondera counties and the Yellowstone river valley as the major threatened regions with additional hot spots across northeastern Montana. A general statewide rise in grasshopper populations is expected, raising concern for potential serious damage. The restoration division trapped 158 pheasants from the federal Lake refuge.
