Chancellor Applauds Dillon Drive for Millage and Bond Victory

Chancellor George A Selke of the University of Montana thanks President Rush Jordan of the Normal College for the Dillon communitys drive securing 1000 for the millage tax and bond issue. The effort funds six units for ten years and a 5 million bond for new campus buildings with O A Bergeson hailed as leader.

Mrs. Fred Woodside saw off Jeanette Branch of Sheridan Montana chosen to represent the state at the annual D A R conference in Washington D C. Rosemary Lane of Dillon is an alternate. Branch travels via Butte Billings Mandan joined by Wyoming and North Dakota pilgrims.

Cast Commended for Beaverhead Spring Play

The Beaverhead County High School annual spring production The Barretts of Wimpole Street drew large crowds Friday and Saturday nights at the auditorium. A 16 senior cast led by Barbara Boyer as Elizabeth Barrett and Frank Merrell as Robert Browning impressed with restrained high school drama.

Death Claims Leo H. Truax in Butte Hospital

Leo H. Truax, longtime Lima resident since 1884, died Monday morning after a lingering illness at a Butte hospital. Born November 26, 1879 in Victor Kansas, he lived in Lima most of his life with brief periods in Dillon. Survived by wife Anna L. Truax, Lima, sister Grace Truax, and sister-in-law Mrs pits Whittemore of Minneapolis. Christian Science services held at White's funeral home. body shipped to Great Falls for cremation.

Memorial Window Installed at St. James Episcopal Church

The St. Cecilia stained glass window honoring Fred Huber, early Dillon jeweler, is placed in the transept of St. James' Episcopal church and will sit above the organ to be installed soon. The memorial was donated by Mrs. Anna Thompson and Miss Bertha Huber, sisters of the deceased.

Special Bus Service Contemplated Friday

Dillon to Butte service may be arranged to handle extra traffic if reservations are sufficient by Thursday evening. Andrus manager LaFay announced the plan to accommodate travelers from Dillon visiting Freedom Road Friday.

Rotary Ladies Night At Dillon Club Draws Big Attendance

Dillon Rotary club’s Monday dinner at the Andrus dining room drew about 75 guests. Robert Gregg chaired the event with Maurice Bostwick, Prof. Linfield, and Col. Renfro among the visitors. Funeral rites for the late Tom Evans were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Brundage chapel. The Rev. Lewis D. Smith of St. James Episcopal church officiated and interment was made in the cemetery at Mountain View.

Museum to Start Construction in Dillon Soon

The Beaverhead County project clears a $13,500 fundraising goal and will commence building as soon as weather permits logs to be hauled from the mountains. The museum will house the Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce and honor donors and pioneers with plaques and memorials.

City council requests improvement zone and water project plans

The council discussed two water and sewer bond proposals to be voted July 20. One bond for $60,000 funds reservoir enlargement and a pumping system from a new well. the other for $165,000 to build two trunk sewers and a sewage disposal plant. Residents urged a boundary zone near Glendale, Dakota, Cornell, and city limits with flush sidewalks, 24 foot setbacks, three-room homes, and no quonset or rough log houses. A formal zone resolution is due for the next meeting and public hearing.

Future Farmers Win at Bozeman

Eleven Future Farmers of America from Dillon attended the ag convention in Bozeman April 7 to 10. Gold emblem honors went to Bill Nelson for the farm home electrical foundation and the chapter farmstead improvement contest. Beaverhead silver emblem winners included best chapter sheep program with several exhibitors and the scrapbook contest. Clayton Huntley and James Munday earned ribbons in judging and swine contests. Dan Scott performed with the state FFA band at a Baxter hotel banquet.

Eagles Initiate Three Candidates In Dillon Aerie Session

Officers and members of Dillon aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles traveled to Lima for a special meeting. Three candidates Joe Michelish John Selvijge and Bobby Jackson were initiated into the order. A dance followed with Al's Rhythm band providing music and a large attendance.

Essay Winners Named in County Dairy Association Contest

Judges announced results from the county dairy association essay contest with entries in two divisions. In fifth and sixth grades Donald Carroll of Dillon won first place and Rachel Mayberry, also of Dillon, took second. Wilma Hoy and Janet Mayland earned high marks and county selections were limited to two. In seventh and eighth grades Rose Ann Clemon of Jackson placed first and Sharon Stocks of Jackson second. Judges included Mrs. David Hagenbarth, Roma Allen, and Mr. O Billovich.

Armstead 4-H Girl Wins Carl Raymond Gray Scholarship

Marilyn Gordon daughter of Mrs Emily Gordon of Armstead has won the Carl Raymond Gray scholarship of 100 dollars from Union Pacific Railway in memory of its former president to support 4-H work. Marilyn 4-H member with eight years in clothing foods and gardening will graduate Lima high school this year and plans to study home economics at Montana State College Bozeman this fall.

Musicians to Appear in Concert by Beaverhead Students

Beaverhead county high school music students travel to Missoula for the state solo and small ensemble meet hosted by Montana University. Soloists include Peggy Lou Sutherland and Marion Camp with others in piano, voice, clarinet, trumpet, cornet, bass and violin events. A brass quintet and vocal group also perform with accompanying adults providing transportation.
